Vinum

Expressive, clear fruit, floral notes; crisp on the palate, remarkably fine-grained, elegant, perfectly judged tannins, crisp fruit—your senses are already rejoicing. A delicacy. Will be enjoyable early.

Decanter

Milk chocolate, blackcurrant and bramble fruit on the nose, gorgeous scents. Ripe and plummy, juicy and so bright, lovely clarity but such precision, really well defined, tension is there and there are edges to the tannins but there is also such good movement. Not plump at all, great clarity with freshness and lift. Lovely sculpting, not muscular but there’s weight and depth here. And I love the fleshy tannins just giving a bit of crushed velvet texture to the palate. Bright, balanced, vibrant, and long too. Soft and lush. 3.8pH.

Cigar box, smoke, currants, and dark red pit fruits show with ease. On the palate, the wine is dark in fruit, with the essence of tobacco, black currants, spice, and chalk, with a chewy, lifted finish. Enjoy it while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 48% Merlot, 39.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 12.3% Cabernet Franc, 14.3% ABV. 3.7 pH. Drink from 2025-2040. 91-93 pts.

Deep ruby colour, makes an immediate impression with its elegant, uplifted tannic grip delivering careful construction of red roses, blueberry and black cherry fruit, grilled spices and understated energy. Will need a good few years in bottle before fully softening, but full of joy.

93-95. Barrel Sample. Black fruit aromas, rich tannins and structure give this wine an initial firmness. But at the same time, it already has a smooth texture that goes with the black fruits and acidity. The wine will certainly age well.

A fresh and harmonious Second Red Wine from Pessac-Léognan

The estate

Neighbour to the illustrious Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the iconic references of Bordeaux, and has been for centuries. Founded in the 16th century by the Lestonnac family, the estate was then managed by the Lazarist priests. Now belonging to the Clarence Dillon estate and Prince Robert of Luxembourg, Château La Mission Haut-Brion continues to shine among the world's greatest wines.

The vineyard

Located in the municipalities of Talence and Pessac, Château La Mission Haut-Brion overlooks a vineyard planted on beautiful gravel soils resting on a subsoil of clay, sand, limestone and faluns (a shell limestone). The vines of Château de La Mission Haut-Brion give birth to great Pessac-Léognan wines.

The wine

A confidential cuvée produced in very limited quantities, La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is the Second Wine of the estate. This rare wine is a superb introduction to the style of Château La Mission Haut-Brion. La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion takes its name from the Lazarist priests of La Mission who have cultivated the vine on the estate since the 18th century.

The vintage

A cool and rainy winter precedes a spring whose alternation of warm days with relative humidity promotes both the rapid and homogeneous budding of the vineyard and a significant mildew pressure mastered by the know-how and reactivity of the teams. The flowering is qualitative and suggests a generous harvest. Carried out under warm and clement conditions, the harvest reveals fresh and aromatic white grapes as well as red grapes ideally combining concentration and liveliness with a beautiful fruity structure.

Vinification and ageing

Ageing in barrels (of which 21.2% are new).
