Description
A Saint-Estèphe Second Wine from with a wonderful fruitiness and elegance.
The estate
Owned by the Bouygues brothers Martin and Olivier since 2006, Château Montrose is an emblematic estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This Second Cru Classé in 1855 oversees one of the finest terroirs in the Médoc. In the past and today, Château Montrose has stood out for the quality of its wines, its style and its distinction, making the estate an essential, world-renowned estate.
The vineyard
A benchmark among the great wines of Saint-Estèphe, Château Montrose oversees a 95-hectare vineyard on an exceptional site considered to be one of the greatest terroirs in the Bordeaux region. This vast, single-hectare vineyard is a rarity on a terroir considered to be an "elite nucleus." Situated not far from the Gironde estuary, the vineyards of Château Montrose are planted on terraces of gravel mixed with sand on the surface, while the subsoil is of a clayey nature.
The wine
The Second Wine of Château Montrose, La Dame de Montrose is made from the same vineyards as the Grand Vin. Mainly made from Merlot, La Dame de Montrose offers another vision of the Saint-Estèphe terroir.
The vintage
A mild winter with little rain preceded a dry spring. The vines broke bud on 4 April and flowered on 18 May. Despite an episode of hail at the end of June, the summer saw above-normal temperatures, leading to veraison on 30 July. The 2022 vintage produced grapes that were both rich and concentrated.
Blend
Merlot (71%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (23%)
Petit verdot (5%)

Characteristics and tasting notes for La Dame de Montrose 2022
Tasting
Nose
Sober yet profound, the nose gives off a bouquet of sap, white flower stalks and violets. There are also hints of Indian ink and redcurrants.
Palate
The palate reveals a fine structure of red fruits (redcurrants) mixed with notes of brioche. Elegant and long on the palate.
