Vinous

Nicolas Greinacher

Aged for nine months in new French oak barriques, the 2024 Condrieu Brèze presents pronounced lemon flesh, white flowers, apricot, light yet confident white peach and pastry aromas. Midweight verging on full and quite concentrated, the 2024 is a delightful Condrieu, walking off the stage with notable freshness on the long finish.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Brèze 2024 Louis Chèze

Tasting

Colour
Clear and crystalline, the colour reveals a delicate fine gold hue with a beautiful luminosity.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the bouquet opens with aromas of apricot and honey, subtly enhanced by floral notes and delicate spicy touches.

Palate
The attack is firm, lively and precise, carried by a beautiful acidity. The mid-palate is ample and silky, offering a rich, slightly fleshy texture that unfolds flavours of peach, apricot, citrus and honey. The finish is long, harmoniously blending honeyed sweetness with a mineral, saline freshness reminiscent of gunflint.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with lobster Thermidor, white meats or delicate seafood such as oysters and pan-seared scallops. It also enhances Asian dishes flavoured with fresh herbs (tarragon, dill, lemongrass), as well as cheeses, particularly Crottin de Chavignol, Brie or Comté. It is also perfect for a refined aperitif.

Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve the Brèze 2024 at a temperature between 8 and 11°C. With its beautiful acid structure, this wine has the aging potential to evolve favourably in the cellar while retaining its freshness.

Other characteristics

Produced in France, this white wine stands out for its dry profile, moving away from the historic sweet styles to favour the pure expression of its terroir.

The elegance and mineral freshness of a great Condrieu wine

The estate

Founded in 1978, Domaine Louis Chèze is an essential reference in the northern Rhône Valley. Starting with just one hectare, the estate now spans thirty to forty-five hectares across prestigious appellations. Still led by its owner and founder Louis Chèze, supported by a dedicated technical team, the estate stands out for its philosophy centred on respect for the vine and sustainable viticulture. Combining tradition and modernity, this estate embodies the excellence and passion of a winemaker devoted to the authentic expression of his terroirs.

The vineyard

The cuvée comes from a two-hectare plot located on the Limony hillsides, at the heart of the Condrieu appellation. Facing due south, the vines, averaging around thirty years of age, thrive on poor soils composed of ancient granitic substrates, glacial-era alluvium and mica. This unique geological configuration pushes the plant to root deeply, ensuring controlled yields and giving the wine its characteristic minerality.

The vintage

The year's conditions helped shape a vintage focused on freshness, balance and drinkability, offering moderate concentration that preserves all the elegance of the fruit in the face of current climatic trends.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, followed by a rigorous sorting of the berries. After gentle pressing and natural settling, fermentation takes place in barrels. The Brèze 2024 is aged for eight to ten months in oak barrels (25% new, the rest having held one to three previous vintages), with regular lees stirring to add complexity. The wine is then bottled in a single batch, without any filtration.
