Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 Louis Latour

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant pale gold hue, enhanced by subtle emerald highlights and remarkable brightness.

Nose
Beautifully complex, the bouquet opens with delicate floral notes intertwined with hints of vanilla, smoke and toast. It then evolves towards white and exotic fruit aromas, such as pineapple, enhanced by subtle nuances of almond and a mineral thread.

Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate seduces with its aromatic richness, unfolding flavours of tropical fruits such as coconut and pineapple. The whole is perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity that lends precision, stretching towards a long, crystalline and deeply mineral finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with pan-seared scallops, noble shellfish such as lobster, or firm-fleshed fish such as monkfish. It will also enhance poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce, delicately prepared veal or foie gras.

Service and Storage

For optimal enjoyment, this Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Built for ageing, it can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2049.

Other Characteristics

This white wine stands out for its elegant profile, freshness and remarkable precision.

The elegance and rarity of a white wine from Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy. Representing the twelfth generation, Florent Latour now leads this historic family estate. With a vineyard spanning nearly 50 hectares, the estate stands out as the largest owner of plots classified at the highest level in the region. Combining tradition and innovation, the estate also has the unique distinction of having its own integrated cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery over the ageing of its wines and respect for its terroir.

The Vineyard

The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet is a singular terroir, spanning just 1.57 hectares within the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. Facing east and south, at an altitude ranging from 240 to 250 metres, the vines thrive on complex soils made up of brown limestone and clay, resting on rock dating back to the Jurassic period. The estate practises sustainable, low-intervention farming here, including ploughing with horses to preserve soil structure and the use of weather stations for precise management of the growing cycle.

The Vintage

2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. The growing cycle had to contend with intense rainfall, with nearly 38 days of rain in May and June, disrupting flowering. The summer then saw historically low sunshine levels, accompanied by a few stormy episodes. Despite these climatic challenges, which led to a sharp drop in yields, the cycle ended with ripeness levels that preserved a lovely freshness.

Winemaking and Ageing

The making of this Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 is the subject of meticulous attention. Ageing takes place exclusively in new oak barrels, made by the estate's own cooperage. These barrels, crafted from oak sourced in northern France and air-dried for nearly three years, are given a medium toast to preserve the expression of the fruit while providing refined structure.
