Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Mas Jullien 2024
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a pale hue with bright highlights, conveying beautiful clarity and remarkable visual purity.
Nose
Discreet in its youth, the bouquet reveals great subtlety. With time, it opens up to floral aromas reminiscent of linden blossom, chamomile and white flowers, enhanced by spicy nuances of white pepper, fennel and anise.
Palate
Carried by a fine acidity, the palate offers lovely tension and a minerality reminiscent of limestone. With its crystalline texture, similar to "spring water", this wine gains richness and complexity thanks to its careful ageing on the lees.
Food and Wine Pairing
A true gastronomic wine, this structured white is made to accompany refined dishes throughout a meal.
Serving and Cellaring
This 2024 vintage can be enjoyed in its youth for its tension, but it is built for long evolution. It should reach its peak between approximately 2027 and 2033, and it can be cellared for more than a decade.
The Expression of a Terroir-Driven White Wine from Mas Jullien in the Languedoc
The Estate
Founded in 1985 by Olivier Jullien, who remains its owner and manager to this day, Mas Jullien is an emblematic estate of the Languedoc. Located in Jonquières, the property extends over approximately 23 hectares of vines. A pioneer in the region's qualitative renewal, the estate stands out for its highly detailed parcel-by-parcel philosophy and its loyalty to native grape varieties. Farming its land according to organic and biodynamic principles that are not officially claimed, Mas Jullien produces wines of great depth, recognised for their ability to faithfully reflect the complexity of their terroirs.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this IGP Pays de l'Hérault wine come from carefully selected plots around Jonquières, north-west of Montpellier. The vines thrive on clay-limestone and marl soils that offer excellent water retention. This area enjoys a Mediterranean climate tempered by altitude and winds, ensuring cool nights that are ideal for preserving the balance and freshness of the berries. The vineyard is managed using environmentally respectful methods that promote biodiversity and living soils.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve the integrity of the bunches. In the cellar, fermentations start spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for around twelve months in barrels and foudres. This process is complemented by extended contact with fine lees, known as "lies de ferme", which gives the wine natural protection against oxidation, aromatic complexity and a richer texture.
Grape Varieties
Carignan Blanc (approximately 55%), Chenin (approximately 30%), Grenache Blanc (approximately 15%), with Viognier, Clairette and Marsanne as complements.
