A Wonderfully Impressive Vosne Romanee Premier Cru
Established in 1981, Domaine Meo-Camuzet encompasses 20 hectares of some of the best crus in Burgundy. Located in the Cote d’Or, the land was originally known as Camuzet Estate and operated through several trusted sharecroppers of Vosne Romanee. Camuzet estate was passed down from original owner, Etienne Camuzet, through four generations before current owner Jean-Nicolas Meo began making wines under the Meo-Camuzet label in 1983. Jean-Nicolas inherited the estate after graduating business and oenology school. He sought mentorship from the esteemed Henri Jayer and Christian Faurois who were sharecroppers in the Camuzet Estate for many years. From his education and guidance of a few Burgundy winemaking legends, Jean-Nicolas has produced benchmark Burgundy for wine lovers to enjoy. Meo-Camuzet boasts six Grand Crus, ten Premier Crus and many village wines that highlight the beauty and purity of Burgundy terroir.
Located in the Cote de Nuit, Vosne Romanee is a commune known for Pinot Noir. This appellation boasts one third Premier Cru sites and six Grand Cru vineyards. The wine from Vosne Romanee dates back thousands of years and is known for its quality balanced and fruit forward wines. The Aux Brulee vineyard site is at the northern part of Vosne Romanee nestled between the Echezeaux and Richebourg Grand Cru vineyards. The vineyard benefits from all day sunshine, western wind and thin limestone topsoils allowing for the development of high quality grapes that ripen evenly and slowly to retain their acid. The name Brulees is translated to “burnt” referencing the sites dryness for optimal growing conditions.
The Meo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanee 1er cru "Aux Brulees" 2017 is an elegant and structured terrior driven beauty. With vines dating back to the 1930s, the grapes selected for this wine are tiny and concentrated with a perfect balance of acid and sugar. This wine is majestic with plenty of complexity that would benefit entirely with age. On the nose the wine is bursting with fresh dark fruit aromas of blackcurrant and blueberry followed by a touch of smoke and burnt wood. The palate sparkles with fresh lively fruit and a mineral backbone. The wine is persistent and structured with lovely tannins and a magnificent length.
