Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the SP68 Rosso 2024 Occhipinti
Tasting
Color
A ruby red of medium intensity, this Italian wine reveals beautiful depth combined with transparency, marked by great clarity and radiant brightness.
Nose
Clean and full of vivacity, the aromatic bouquet reveals scents of ripe cherry and wild strawberry, mingled with touches of dried herbs, iron and rose petals. Subtle notes of black pepper, licorice, rhubarb and myrtle further enrich this profile, deeply marked by its sense of place.
Palate
Soft and wonderfully fresh, the attack gives way to a lovely persistence of carob, juniper, aromatic herbs and small red fruits. The balance is masterful, supported by lively acidity, striking minerality and fine, velvety tannins.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with Mediterranean cuisine, particularly dishes based on tomatoes, eggplant or grilled vegetables. It also pairs perfectly with dried charcuterie, pasta with wild herbs, grilled fish, light poultry dishes, and fare with Middle Eastern influences.
Service and storage
Due to its unfiltered production, the SP68 Rosso 2024 may show slight cloudiness in its youth or form a natural sediment in the bottle over time.
Other characteristics
Classified under the Terre Siciliane IGT appellation, this wine has an alcohol content of 12.5%. It stands out for being made without any clarification or filtration, thus preserving the full complexity and authenticity of its aromas.
The authentic expression of a Sicilian terroir by the Arianna Occhipinti estate
The estate
Founded in 2004 by Arianna Occhipinti, who remains its sole owner and director, this estate is located in Vittoria, in southeastern Sicily, Italy. Having started with just one hectare, the estate now spans some forty hectares. An emblematic figure, Arianna Occhipinti champions a farming philosophy centered on biodiversity, respect for ecosystems and minimal intervention. The estate stands out for its holistic approach, integrating vine cultivation alongside olive trees and ancient grains, to produce wines that faithfully reflect their terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the province of Ragusa in Sicilia, at the foot of the Iblei mountains, the vineyard benefits from a Mediterranean climate tempered by mountain winds. The vines, averaging around 25 years old for nero d'avola and 35 years old for frappato, are trained using the Guyot and gobelet methods with a density of 6,000 vines per hectare. The soils, of medium consistency, consist of reddish sands and limestone rock. This terroir is part of a rich ecosystem where biodiversity reigns supreme, blending fruit trees and wheat fields.
The vintage
The 2024 harvest took place over the first ten days of October. This harvest period allowed the berries to reach optimal physiological and phenolic ripeness, promoting full aromatic development while preserving lovely natural acidity.
Winemaking and aging
The production of the SP68 Rosso 2024 begins with destemming and crushing the grapes. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts in cement vats. A skin maceration of 25 to 30 days is carried out, accompanied by daily pump-overs and manual punch-downs. Aging then continues for six months in these same concrete vats, followed by one month of rest in bottle before release.
