Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Meursault 1er cru "Les Perrières" 2024 by Pierre Girardin
Tasting notes
Appearance
The colour is a pale yellow, at times enhanced by subtle golden highlights.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of white fruit such as apple and pear, mingled with citrus notes. It is distinguished by a pronounced mineral imprint evoking chalk, flint and crushed stone, complemented by delicate touches of white flowers.
Palate
The palate offers a chiselled texture and remarkable tension. The slender structure of the Chardonnay stretches towards a long, saline and deeply mineral finish.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs harmoniously with delicate dishes such as langoustine carpaccio, scallops or roasted gambas. It also works very well with noble fish such as sea bass or sole, as well as white meats served with a lightly creamy sauce.
Serving and cellaring
Made for ageing, this wine needs a few years of patience to open up fully. It can be cellared until around 2034.
The Precision and Mineral Purity of a White Wine from Meursault
The estate
Heir to the thirteenth generation of a winegrowing family from Burgundy, Pierre-Vincent Girardin officially founded his estate in 2017. Based in Meursault, this artisanal operation farms around 4.5 hectares of its own vines, complemented by a négociant activity. Now at the helm of the estate, Pierre-Vincent Girardin stands out for his pursuit of precision and balance. His white wines, renowned for their tension and mineral purity, are a fitting illustration of the richness of the Côte de Beaune terroirs.
The vineyard
The Perrières climat lies mid-slope, to the south-west of the village of Meursault. This terroir is characterised by shallow soils of coarse limestone scree. A thin layer of silt, approximately 40 centimetres deep, rests on a mass of hard Bathonian limestone blocks. This geological structure ensures excellent drainage and allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil, giving the wine an intense mineral and saline signature.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage in the Côte de Beaune was marked by a particularly wet spring and summer. This heavy rainfall led to significant downy mildew pressure and disrupted flowering, causing coulure and millerandage. These challenging weather conditions resulted in a yield reduction of around 10 to 20%, requiring rigorous work to preserve the health of the berries.
Winemaking and ageing
To craft the Meursault 1er cru "Les Perrières" 2024, the estate favours an approach aimed at preserving the natural tension of the terroir. The house philosophy rests on very measured use of new oak and careful ageing on fine lees. These technical choices avoid any heaviness and highlight the slender profile and mineral purity of the wine.
