Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Ardbeg's Traigh Bhan Batch 6
Tasting
Appearance
Beautiful bright gold hue.
Nose
From the opening, the nose reveals an original and intense character with aromas of olive oil, tar and soot, married with touches of chocolate-coated ginger and freshly cut grass.
Palate
On the palate, the experience is slightly oily with a mentholated and enveloping sweetness. The palate is filled with flavours of toasted bread, creosote, and smoked pineapple, mixed with nuances of dark chocolate, peppermint cream, and glowing embers. This complexity ends on a finish evoking coffee grounds and liquorice, leaving an intense and memorable persistence.
The smoothness and structure of a Scottish Single Malt Whisky
Ardbeg, an iconic Islay distillery
The Ardbeg distillery, perched on the wild coast of Islay island, in Scotland, has embodied the excellence and authenticity of peated whisky since 1815. Its location by the sea, with marine and peaty influences, gives its single malts a unique aromatic richness, prized by enthusiasts worldwide. Founded by John McDougall, Ardbeg has overcome periods of turbulence to become a symbol of tradition and know-how. Today, the distillery is recognised for its powerful and balanced whiskies, created with passion and innovation, and ranks among the most respected houses in the whisky universe.
Traigh Bhan Batch 6: a rare and sought-after expression
The Traigh Bhan series pays tribute to the beach of the same name on Islay, nicknamed the "Singing Sand". This sixth edition reflects the evolution of Ardbeg's expertise, masterfully marrying peaty intensity and sweetness, while preserving the authenticity of the smoky and mineral aromas emblematic of this distillery at the origin of great Scottish whiskies.
Production and ageing: a meticulous process
The Traigh Bhan Batch 6 is carefully crafted from peated barley and pure Islay water, before a 19-year ageing in carefully selected oloroso sherry and bourbon casks. The sherry casks impart rich and spicy notes, while the bourbon ones bring soft and vanilla nuances. This long maturation process allows the aromas to concentrate, creating a perfect balance between power and complexity that makes this Single Malt Whisky unique.
