Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Clément X.O
Tasting
Color
A beautiful havana hue, shifting between light amber and golden brown depending on the light's intensity.
Nose
A complex bouquet marked by aromas of toasted almonds, pronounced spices, and white pepper. With aeration, a veil of white oak and subtle leather notes emerge, accompanied by a distinctive minty freshness reminiscent of freshly cut grass and a touch of fresh curry.
Palate
Remarkably refined, the attack offers an excellent balance between toasted woody notes, spices, and alcoholic structure. The palate reveals indulgent flavors of stewed dried fruits, sweet vanilla, and white pepper. The finish unfolds with remarkable length, gradually fading into subtle toasted notes and a lingering touch of nutmeg.
Pairings and tasting occasions
This spirit is best enjoyed neat, served at room temperature in a balloon or tulip glass to concentrate its aromas (adding ice cubes is not recommended). It pairs elegantly with fresh fruit skewers (melon, pineapple, watermelon), aged cheeses such as 24-month Comté or mature Gouda, as well as rich dishes like foie gras and duck breast. Its woody structure makes it equally enjoyable as an aperitif or a digestif.
Mixology
Although primarily intended to be enjoyed neat, its aromatic richness allows for sophisticated creations. It is an excellent substitute for younger rums, elevating a prestige Planteur Antillais, and pairs wonderfully with tropical fruits, chocolate, or coffee in contemporary cocktails.
Other characteristics
This spirit has an alcohol content of 42% by volume. Its excellence was recognized with a gold medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2012.
An aged agricole rum from Martinique with great aromatic complexity
Habitation Clément: The Excellence of Martinique Rum
Founded in 1887 by Homère Clément on the Acajou estate in Le François, the Clément house embodies more than a century of expertise and social success. A pioneer in the distillation of pure sugarcane juice, the distillery has successfully stood the test of time by blending tradition and innovation. Now led by Charles Larcher, the company became a subsidiary of the Groupe Bernard Hayot in 1986, its current owner. This acquisition helped consolidate the brand's international reputation while preserving its historical roots. The historic site, listed as a Monument Historique, welcomes nearly 100,000 visitors annually to its aging cellars and botanical park. The Clément brand thus remains an essential reference for Martinique rum, upholding a quality standard recognized worldwide.
Clément X.O: The Accomplished Expression of Aged Agricole Rum
Clément X.O embodies the quintessence of aged agricole rum, crafted in strict compliance with the specifications of the AOC Martinique. This exceptional rum is distilled exclusively from pure sugarcane juice, known as vesou, ensuring optimal preservation of its natural aromas. Under the expertise of cellar master Julien Thimon, the maturation process relies on a meticulous blend of eaux-de-vie aged for a minimum of six years at Habitation Clément.
Tropical aging follows a particularly sophisticated alternating barrel strategy: the spirit first rests in new American white oak barrels, giving it structure and intensity, before being transferred into red barrels previously used for bourbon, which impart softer, caramelized notes.
In 2026, this prestigious product will feature an updated packaging with a new eco-designed bottle. 23% lighter, it incorporates engravings directly into the glass reading "Clément" and "1887," eliminating screen printing to facilitate recycling while asserting its historical identity and environmental commitment.
