An exceptional Japanese single malt from the Yamazaki distillery
Suntory Whisky, a pioneer of Japanese whisky
Founded in 1899 by Shinjiro Torii in Osaka, Suntory has established itself as a pioneer of Japanese whisky. In 1923, Torii founded Yamazaki, Japan’s first malt distillery near Kyoto, with the Scottish expertise of Masataka Taketsuru. Suntory Whisky now operates three distilleries – Yamazaki, Hakushu (Southern Alps) and Chita – producing spirits crafted from Japan’s pure waters. Still run by the Torii family, the company revolutionized the industry with its Yamazaki (1984) and Hakushu (1994) single malts, as well as the Hibiki blend (1989). The acquisition of the Beam group in 2014 confirmed Suntory as a global leader in premium spirits.
The Yamazaki Tsukuriwake Golden Promise 2024 Edition, a celebration of Scottish barley
The Yamazaki Tsukuriwake Golden Promise 2024 Edition celebrates the heritage and innovation of the Yamazaki distillery through the use of an exceptional barley. Golden Promise, first cultivated in Scotland in the 1960s, was first distilled at Yamazaki in 2009. This barley variety lends this Japanese whisky deep malty notes and a distinctive aromatic richness.
The Tsukuriwake collection, a method unique to Yamazaki, explores how changes made at each stage of the production process can broaden flavor profiles and increase complexity. This approach expands the horizons of traditional whisky by integrating a diversity of methods and varied wood aging. Yamazaki Golden Promise is also used as the base for Yamazaki’s flagship expressions, including the 12-year-old, underscoring its exceptional quality.
