Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Susana Balbo Signature White Blend 2025
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine reveals a bright straw-yellow hue, adorned with subtle greenish reflections in its youth, gradually evolving towards golden tones with time.
Nose
Intensely aromatic and remarkably complex, the nose unveils floral notes of honeysuckle and rose brought by the Torrontés. It then opens onto aromas of citrus fruits (lemongrass, pink grapefruit, orange) and fresh herbs, rounded out by hints of white fruits such as peach and melon. Barrel ageing enriches this bouquet with delicate nuances of vanilla and sweet spices.
Palate
On the palate, this wine seduces with its perfect balance between vibrant tension and a delicately creamy texture. The refreshing acidity blends harmoniously with the substance, without any bitterness. The long, lingering finish stands out for its beautiful mineral imprint.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with grilled fish, seafood such as ceviche or sushi, as well as white meats like rabbit. It also perfectly complements Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with sweet-and-sour or subtly spiced flavours.
Serving and cellaring
Ideally served at a temperature between 8 and 13 °C, the Susana Balbo Blanc 2025 boasts remarkable ageing potential. While it proves highly expressive in its youth, it will continue to gain complexity in the cellar for at least five years, developing luscious notes of honey and beeswax.
Other characteristics
This dry white wine has a very low residual sugar content (generally below 2 g/L) and a moderate alcohol level of around 12 to 12.5%. It also stands out for its beautiful total acidity, and the clarification methods used make it suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.
The elegance and freshness of an Argentine white wine from the Valle de Uco
The estate
Founded in 1999 in Agrelo, in the Luján de Cuyo region of Mendoza, the family-run estate Susana Balbo Wines is led by Susana Balbo, Argentina's first female oenologist. Recognised worldwide for her pioneering spirit and expertise, she has established her estate among the country's leading names. The estate is renowned for producing premium, sustainable and partly certified organic wines, blending technical innovation with a profound expression of high-altitude terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come mainly from the Paraje Altamira terroir, located at around 1,150 metres above sea level in the Valle de Uco. This high-altitude vineyard benefits from a continental mountain climate with wide temperature swings, ensuring slow ripening. The vines thrive on sandy-loam soils, poor and well-draining, enriched with limestone pebbles and gravel. Farmed under a sustainable approach, they are the subject of meticulous manual harvesting.
Winemaking and ageing
The elaboration of the Susana Balbo Blanc 2025 rests on a tailor-made approach. After destemming, the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc undergo maceration under dry ice before pressing. The Sémillon ferments in stainless steel tanks or concrete eggs with indigenous yeasts, while the Sauvignon Blanc ferments in barrels. The Torrontés is directly pressed, fermented in barrels, then aged on the lees for two months. The final blend benefits from five months of ageing in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
Grape varieties
This Argentine wine is the result of a blend of Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, whose proportions are carefully adjusted from year to year to enhance the balance of the cuvée.
