The Estate
Created in 1999 by Susana Balbo, Argentina’s first female enologist, the Susana Balbo Wines estate spans two properties in Mendoza: Agrelo and Gualtallary. This family business, led by Susana Balbo with her children José and Ana Lovaglio, embodies Argentine winemaking excellence. Nicknamed the “Queen of Torrontés,” she became in 2024 the first Argentine woman to be inducted into the Decanter Hall of Fame.
The Vineyard
The vines of the BenMarco Expresivo are planted in Gualtallary in the Valle de Uco, at an average altitude of 1,300 meters. This exceptional terroir benefits from alluvial limestone soils that impart to the wine its characteristic minerality.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for the BenMarco Expresivo 2022 are hand-harvested then carefully sorted. After destemming and gentle crushing, a four-day cold maceration precedes fermentation with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature of up to 30°C. Aging takes place over 14 months in French oak barrels, 70% new and 30% second-use.
