Wine Spectator

Kristen Bieler

A dark, brooding red that unspools layers of black licorice and blackberry coulis flecked with singed spices. Sleek, with savory acidity, this shows an appealing juiciness that is quickly grounded by a racy edge and a powerful pillar of iron. Best from 2026 through 2042. 350 cases made, 25 cases imported.

James Suckling

A well-balanced, intense, textured and lively Côte-Rôtie, offering aromas of dark cherries, smoke, dried herbs, stones and peppercorns. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Silky texture at the center, with a well-integrated structure framing the palate. Focused and full of verve with a fleshy character. Peppery and vivid finish with length. Try from 2026.

Description

A Rhone Valley red wine of great depth, combining balance and nobility

The estate
Driven by a true passion for wine and great terroirs, Michel Tardieu created the Tardieu-Laurent estate in 1996, with his wife. Over time, this family house has established itself as an essential reference in the Rhone Valley, acclaimed for its emblematic cuvées.

For two generations, the estate has been committed to revealing the richness of prestigious terroirs - Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu, Hermitage, Vacqueyras, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage... - by producing wines that are both subtle, precise and imbued with elegance, thanks to a demanding vinification.

The wine
The Côte-Rôtie "Vieilles Vignes" comes exclusively from renowned terroirs of the Côte Brune, such as Landonne, Lancement and Chavaroche. The vines, rooted in the heart of the slopes, are on average over 60 years old, giving the wine remarkable depth and intensity.

Vinification and aging
The vinification is carried out with whole bunches, without destemming. The wine is then aged according to a two-step protocol: 12 months in oak barrels (new and second use), then an additional 12 months in foudres, to refine its aromatic expression and structure.

Blend
This "Vieilles Vignes" cuvée from Côte-Rôtie signed Tardieu-Laurent is made up of 100% Syrah, the emblematic grape variety of the appellation.
