The estate
Founded in 1691, the Valentin Zusslin estate is located in Orschwihr, between Colmar and Mulhouse. Covering 16 hectares of vineyards, this family-run estate is now managed by Marie and Jean-Paul Zusslin, representing the thirteenth generation. A pioneer of biodynamics in Alsace since 1997, the estate is certified ECOCERT, DEMETER, and BIODYVIN. Recognized among the best biodynamic producers in the world, the estate prioritizes quality over quantity.
The vineyard
The Grand Cru Pfingstberg benefits from an ideal microclimate with a south-east exposure at around 300 meters altitude. Protected from heavy rainfall by the Vosges peaks, this historic terroir, mentioned as early as 1299, rests on sandstone, marl, and limestone soils. A forest covers the top of the slope, ensuring regular hydration for the vines. The steep slopes required the construction of terraces supported by sandstone walls. The estate practices respectful biodynamic viticulture, with deliberately limited yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, promoting concentration and the expression of the terroir in Alsace.
Grape variety
100% riesling.
