James Suckling

Rich nose of ripe plums and milk chocolate with a delightful hint of mint. A well-crafted and surprisingly elegant red for this appellation with some good, soft tannins and enough acidity. The long finish is at once creamy, savory and dry. Drink now.

Description

The refinement and richness of a red wine from the Rhône Valley

The estate

Internationally renowned oenologist, Xavier Vignon has built his reputation by supporting more than 200 estates and contributing to the creation of some of the greatest wines of the Rhône Valley, notably in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In 2002, he decided to bring his own cuvées to life under the "Xavier" signature, blending the best juices from meticulously selected parcels. Freed from the constraints of terroir and grape variety, Xavier Vignon produces wines that are true to his vision: accessible, contemporary and offering remarkable value for money. Thus was born the 100% Xavier collection.

The wine

This Lirac wine signed Xavier Vignon perfectly embodies the expression of the appellation's terroirs. Made from vineyards planted on rolled pebble and clay soils, this wine benefits from a goblet pruning, a technique that allows the sugar concentration of the berries to be controlled while preserving their natural freshness and acidity.

Vinification and aging

The grapes, harvested by hand, undergo a long maceration without mechanical extraction. The free-run juice is extracted exclusively by gravity, without passing the pomace through the press, in order to preserve all its finesse. The grenache is entirely aged in concrete vats, while 30% of the syrah is aged for 12 months in unheated barrels; the rest continues its aging in concrete vats to preserve the purity of the fruit.

Blend

This Lirac 2020 from Xavier Vignon is composed of grenache and syrah.
