Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Crozes-Hermitage "Labaya" 2024 by Yves Cuilleron
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a vibrant red hue.
Nose
Powerful and complex, the nose exudes generous aromas of red fruits and blackberry, harmoniously blended with delicate floral notes of rose and violet, along with touches of dried herbs and crushed pepper.
Palate
Supple and gourmand, the palate seduces with its beautiful balance and freshness. It reveals delicious notes of juicy black fruits, such as cherry, supported by fine tannins. A subtle mineral and smoky touch extends the tasting towards a lingering, pleasant finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked beef dishes, a rib of beef, or roasted poultry. It also pairs very well with a rack of lamb with thyme, summer grilled dishes, or a fine charcuterie board.
Service and storage
Approachable from its youth, this Labaya 2024 can also be cellared and enjoyed until around 2029.
The authentic expression of a great Crozes-Hermitage wine
The estate
Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron, the family estate has established itself as a major name in the Rhône Valley. Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has been at the helm of the estate, bringing a genuine drive for excellence. Under his direction, the vineyard has grown considerably, now spanning 100 hectares across several prestigious appellations. A committed advocate of sustainable, environmentally responsible viticulture, Yves Cuilleron crafts authentic wines that faithfully and purely express the unique character of their terroirs of origin.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from a two-hectare vineyard located in the Mercurol and Beaumont-Monteux sectors, within the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. The vines flourish notably on the historic Malfondière plot, south of Tain l'Hermitage. The cuvée's name in fact refers to a former toponymic appellation of this site. The vineyard is cultivated using environmentally friendly methods, with meticulous soil work and entirely hand-picked harvests.
The vintage
2024 stands out for climatic conditions that favoured freshness and balance. This vintage thus offers lovely natural acidity, allowing the berries to develop a vibrant aromatic expression without any over-ripening.
Winemaking and aging
For this Labaya 2024, the grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and then fully destemmed upon arrival at the winery. Alcoholic fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled open vats for around three weeks, punctuated by regular punch-downs and pump-overs. Finally, malolactic fermentation and aging take place in barrels.
Grape variety
100% Syrah.
