From France's beautiful Loire Valley, the Alphonse Mellot La Demoiselle Sancerre red wine is a true representation of the Pinot Noir of the region. With a firm, beautiful ruby color and strong nose that reflects the soil the Alphonse Mellot La Demoiselle Sancerre Red has been aged in new oak for 14 months. The palate from this wine also reflects the flinty clay soil with hints of bold cherry kirsch and rich smoked meats, blended to perfection with extremely silky tannins. The La Demoiselle has the strength to pair well with a range of foods from spicy wild duck to pears roasted in cinnamon.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Tasted from tank whence it had been assembled from assorted small barrels, the Mellot 2010 Sancerre rouge La Demoiselle displays a bright fresh-fruitedness that I missed in the corresponding La Moussiere, and which I can't help suspecting one can credit in part to this the flint-rich, west-northwest facing site. Fresh and distilled cherry mingle with beef stock; a saliva-liberating salinity quickens the sappy mid-palate; and the satisfyingly juicy finish evinces a genuine sense of levity. This is really a remarkable success for its appellation, not to mention its vintage. Mellot plans to leave this in tank longer before bottling than he will his Moussiere or Grands Champs, and while evolution in such a vessel is always bound to be relatively slow, he made clear that he thinks it important.
