Description
An expressive Margaux wine with remarkable finesse
The Estate
The Château Brane-Cantenac, historic estate of the Margaux appellation, was renamed as such in 1833 when Jacques-Maxime de Brane, nicknamed the “Napoleon of the vines,” acquired it. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, the property has belonged to the Lurton family since Léonce Récapet took over its management in 1925. Now run by Henri Lurton, this vineyard, replanted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, produces wines of remarkable elegance thanks to its unique gravelly terroir.
The Vineyard
The vineyard of Château Brane-Cantenac benefits from an exceptional terroir located in the heart of the Margaux appellation. The siliceous and clayey gravel soils on the Cantenac plateau offer ideal conditions for the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties, imparting to the wines the finesse and elegance so characteristic of the appellation’s great growths.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by contrasting climatic conditions. A mild and very rainy winter promoted early and uniform budbreak. The wet spring stimulated vine growth with successful flowering. The summer brought high water stress accompanied by cool nights, allowing optimal aromatic and phenolic synthesis. The capricious conditions in September and October necessitated harvests of great precision.
Blend
This Château Brane-Cantenac 2024 is the result of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (22%) and Cabernet Franc (1%).
