Vinum

Ruby red; on the nose, pink grapefruit, a touch of cola, pronounced oak note; on the palate, round on the attack, then slightly drying tannins, medium length. Somewhat constructed.

Decanter

Some black chocolate, vanilla and cardamom on the nose with blackcurrant. Quite lightly presented with some light blue fruit and fine, softly chalky tannins. This feels a little focused on texture rather than fruit or acidity right now, but there’s some definition and purity too. Nothing harsh, just not particularly fruit-forward. A little sombre.

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot. Cask sample. Leafy Cabernet nose. Juicy and textured on the palate. Firm tannic frame. Dry and slightly chewy on the finish. Correct. (JL)

Black currants, cherries, cedar, and cocoa are the intro to the wine. Medium-bodied, chewy, savory, fresh, and vibrant, you find a minty edge to the sweet and spicy currants on the palate and in the finish. The wine blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Merlot, 13% ABV. Harvesting took place September 23 - October 8. Drink from 2027-2040. 90-92 pts

Le Figaro Vin

An elegant oak note opens on the nose and fills the space. The velvety texture is a real pleasure, with chocolatey tannins, juicy fruit, toasty accents, and a lovely energy on the finish. A delight.

Vertdevin

The nose is nicely elegant, offering a certain creaminess, pedigree, precision, accuracy, an alluring side, aromatic depth and a lovely texture. It reveals notes of vibrant wild blackcurrant and bright small fruits, combined with touches of crushed strawberry, as well as fine hints of fleshy gariguette strawberry, violet, liquorice, cherry blossom, a very discreet hint of delicate infusion and star anise. The palate is nicely fruity, mineral and balanced, offering a tangy backbone, minerality and a lovely sappy character that drives the tasting. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh wild blackcurrant, fresh/ripe wild cherry and, more subtly, lilac and pistil, combined with touches of crunchy small fruits, as well as fine hints of star anise and racy minerality. Good length. The tannins are precise, supple, elegant and flavourful. A wine offering delicacy, aromatic depth and indulgence. A touch of mocha and an almost infusion/concentration note in the background.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Croizet-Bages 2024

Tasting

Low yields combined with meticulous and demanding sorting give this vintage a rare nobility, revealed by a palette of expressions that are both multiple and authentic. The result is superb balances, blending tenderness and salinity, tension and indulgence, all carried by remarkable subtlety.

A Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac combining generosity and finesse

The property

Founded in the 17th century by the Croizet brothers, the Château Croizet-Bages is an emblematic wine estate on the left bank of Bordeaux, located in Pauillac. Since 1942, the Quié family has been managing it, with Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe Quié at its head today.

The vineyard

Located on the Bages plateau in Pauillac, the Château Croizet-Bages vineyard benefits from an exceptional 27-hectare terroir composed of deep gravel and sandy gravel. These soils promote natural drainage and regular feeding of the vines, which are on average 35 years old.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage was marked by a strong oceanic influence and a significant presence of mildew. These climatic conditions led to reduced yields but favored a good concentration of the grapes. Rigorous sorting allowed only healthy berries to be selected. The harvest took place from September 23 to 28 for the merlot and from October 3 to 8 for the cabernet sauvignon, under optimal conditions.

Vinification and aging

Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks of different capacities (12 hl to 120 hl). The alcoholic fermentation lasts about 10 days at a controlled temperature between 26 and 28°C, with 2 to 3 pump-overs daily. The malolactic fermentation extends over 9 days. The maceration time is 19 days for the merlot and 18 days for the cabernet sauvignon. The aging, which began in December 2024, continues for 12 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

Blend

70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot.
