The Sweetness and Refinement of a Great Rosé Wine from Côtes de Provence
The Estate
The Château d’Esclans is located in the heart of Provence, northeast of Saint-Tropez, with the Mediterranean in the background. The first traces of Château d'Esclans date back to the Roman Empire. It was then an observation post over the Gulf of Fréjus to warn of potential maritime invasions.
Château d’Esclans is an extraordinary estate in the heart of Provence. The Château is known for its old Grenache vines that produce grapes more concentrated in aromas than younger vines.
Built in the 19th century, the current château has had many owners. Owned by Sacha Lichine since 2006, Château d’Esclans has contributed to the rise of Côtes de Provence wines. It has now become a global reference for Provence rosés with the Whispering Angel cuvée.
The Vineyard
On the Côte d’Azur, a short distance from the ancient Roman city of Fréjus, lies the Esclans Valley, home to the 44-hectare vineyard of Château d’Esclans. Averaging 50 to 55 years old, the vines are planted on high-altitude vineyards composed, depending on the parcels, of clay, limestone, or sandy gravel. This mosaic of terroirs ensures a great diversity of characteristics in the wines of the château.
The Wine
An illustrious cuvée among the great wines of Côtes de Provence, Les Clans from Château d'Esclans is a gastronomic wine that owes its uniqueness to both its aromatic expression and its significant aging potential.
