Description

A fruity and velvety red wine from Haut-Médoc

The estate

Owned by the Merlaut family since 2005 and managed by Céline Vilars Foubet and Jean-Pierre Foubet, Château de Camensac has taken centre-stage at Haut-Médoc since the 18th century. This 5th Classified Great Growth in 1855 has been the subject of significant investments, both at the vineyard and in the cellar, which made it possible to equip the vineyard with the tools of its level. Today, Château de Camensac distinguishes itself as a standard Bordeaux reference with an extremely attractive price-quality ratio.

The vineyard

Located in Haut-Médoc, the Château de Camensac vineyard covers 25 hectares of vines. The vines are planted on two different types of soil: the Günzian gravel found in Saint-Julien and the Villefranchian gravel found in Pessac-Léognan. The uniqueness of the estate’s wines is born from these two types of soils.

The vintage

Winter 2020 was characterised by its unusual mildness, which continued into a radiant spring. From March, high temperatures and a bright sun lulled the vineyard at the estate. In mid-April, a turning point was marked with the onset of heavy and frequent rains, which put the wine-growing industry at risk. However, while June remained humid, July saw the return of superb and very hot weather.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (53%)
Merlot (47%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château de Camensac 2020

Tasting

Colour
With a beautiful garnet colour, the wine is dark and shining.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet expresses all of the complexity and harmony between notes of graphite and spice. Scents of mocha combine wonderfully with fresh rose and blackberry, offering a subtle aromatic expression.

Palate
The 2020 Château de Camensac is a full-bodied wine with a great finesse. The attack is bold, subsequently revealing satiny tannins and the great balance of this cuvée. The finish is long and fruity.

Storage

The 2020 Château de Camensac is to be tasted from 2025 and offers an exceptional ageing potential. Indeed, its character will develop until 2045.
