A red wine from Graves with dense and silky tannins

Château de Chantegrive is a red wine produced in the appellation of Graves. The vines of this 46-hectare vineyard are 25 years old on average and planted on gravelly slopes (of gravel, pebbles, stones, and sand mixed with silt), and in a clayey-limestone subsoil.

The 2016 vintage was marked by extreme climatic conditions. The winter and spring (from January to June) saw significant rainfall. The summer was warm and dry, the ripening of the grapes revived by healthy showers in September. The grape harvest was calm and blessed with ideal weather.

At tasting, the Château de Chantegrive 2016 presents a dark and deep red colour. The nose reveals a kick of fruit, while the mouth reveals dense and silky tannins, as well as a balanced acidity that offers freshness and delicacy.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2016 Chantegrive had a slightly odd bouquet with a light geranium scent that I found offputting. The palate is medium-bodied and was much more correct, with firm tannin and crisp acidity, some lovely mulberry and spicebox notes towards the finish. The aromatics corrected themselves with aeration and I ended up appreciating this Graves more than I initially thought.
