The elegance and balance of a Margaux signed Château du Tertre
The estate
Built in its current form in 1736 by the renowned glassmaker Pierre Mitchell, the Château du Tertre is a historic estate in Bordeaux. Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, this prestigious property extends over a 52-hectare vineyard. Today, the estate is managed by the Helfrich family, who took over operations in 2021. Under the direction of Cynthia Capelaere, the estate continues its pursuit of excellence within the Margaux wine region, relying on sustainable practices to enhance its exceptional terroir.
The vineyard
Located on one of the highest rises of the Margaux appellation, at around 24 meters above sea level in the commune of Arsac, the terroir benefits from excellent southern exposure. The 43 hectares under production rest on soils composed of Garonne gravel and glacial sands. This perfect natural drainage, combined with vines averaging around forty years old and planted at high density, allows for grapes of remarkable quality.
The vintage
The year was strongly influenced by scorching climatic conditions. Faced with these extreme weather conditions, the teams carried out rigorous work on soil and canopy management in order to preserve the full freshness of the grapes. Harvest then took place in optimal conditions between September 8 and 22.
Vinification and aging
Vinification takes place in stainless steel, concrete, and wooden vats. The team favors gentle extraction from a generous texture, with traditional pump-overs and a delicate maceration lasting around twenty days. The wine is then aged for 16 months in Bordeaux barrels, composed of 40% new oak and 60% once-used barrels.
Grape varieties
The blend of this Château du Tertre 2025 consists of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 11% cabernet franc, and 6% petit verdot.
