A lively and structured Listrac wine

The estate

Maps dating back to the beginning of the 13th century testify to the presence of vines in a place called "Fourcas". Following the acquisition of the estate by Master Jean Antoine Dupré in 1843, it was renamed Château Fourcas Dupré.

While the Pagés family has been making fine Listrac wines almost 50 years, Château Fourcas Dupré has been owned by Gérard Jicquel, a Breton entrepreneur and creator of the family group, Beautiful Life, but also the owner of Château d'Argassac (Haut-Médoc) since 2020.

The vineyard

Located at the highest point of the appellation, Château Fourcas Dupré is a Listrac wine that stems from a 47-hectare HVE level 3-certified vineyard. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on a hill composed of Pyrenean gravel and clay.

The vintage

At the estate, the year 2021 is marked by a cool and wet start to the summer. The château's teams increased their efforts in order to preserve the vineyard’s healthy condition. The strong sunshine recorded at the end of August and the beginning of September helped to refined the ripening process.

Vinification and ageing

The harvested grapes are rigorously sorted in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Vinification in 11 concrete vats and 6 stainless steel vats. Vatting time between 21 and 23 days. The extraction process is favoured by the use of soft stirring. Malolactic fermentation in vats followed by a two-week maceration. The wine is aged in 30% new French oak barrels, 30% in second fill barrels, 27% in stainless steel vats and 3% in amphorae.

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (54%)

Merlot (45%)

Petit Verdot (1%).

Château Fourcas Dupré 2021: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Despite low yields, this 2021 vintage produces a concentrated wine, whose blend reveals the lively, structured and fruity features of the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal and the enfolding sweetness of the Merlot variety.
