Description

The complexity and precision of a Pouilly-Fuissé white wine

The estate

An historic name in south Burgundy, Château Fuissé has belonged to the Vincent family for 5 generations. Since 2003, oenologist Antoine Vincent has managed the family estate.

The vineyard

Overseeing an exceptional terroir, Château de Fuissé’s vineyards stretch across nearly 40 hectares and 5 appellations in south Burgundy, of which 25 hectares are in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Facing east, on a gradual slope, the Clos vineyard is characterised by a succession of clay-limestone strata which give it its geological distinctiveness.

The wine

"Le Clos" is a monopoly which has belonged to Château Fuissé since 1862. Covering an area of 2.7 hectares, "Le Clos" surrounds Château-Fuissé and is bordered at the entrance by a stone pediment built by the family's great-grandfather: Jacques Vincent. Vinified by Antoine Vincent, Le Clos is a major name among the great wines of Pouilly-Fuissé and Burgundy.

Winemaking

Harvest done by hand. The grapes were gently pneumatically pressed according to the quality and maturity of the harvest. The must was then settled and the juice put into oak barrels. Indigenous yeasts were used for the alcoholic fermentation with a Burgundian vinification on lees. Antoine Vincent decides whether to carry out full or partial malolactic fermentation. The final blending of the barrels is carried out after racking in the summer, with a fining with bentonite if necessary. The wine was then left in stainless steel vats before bottling.

Blend

Chardonnay (100%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Le Clos" Monopole 2020 from Château Fuissé

Tasting

The Pouilly-Fuissé Château-Fuissé "Le Clos" Monopole 2018 brilliantly reveals all the singularity and complexity of its terroir. The limestone strata give the wine a great minerality, fresh mentholated and liquorice notes combined with lovely citrus notes. The marl and clay soils are heavier and deeper, giving acidic citrus notes combined with buttery and caramelised notes. Intensely aromatic, this white wine from Pouilly-Fuissé with its harmonious structure and endless length has all the characteristics of a great Burgundy wine that will evolve very well over time.

Food and wine pairing

This Pouilly-Fuissé Château-Fuissé "Le Clos" Monopole pairs perfectly with fine dishes such as lobster, scallops, fish like turbot or sole, not forgetting fine white meats in sauce, like a Bresse chicken.

To serve

For the best tasting, serve between 12 and 13°C.

Storage

This Burgundy white wine can be laid down until 2028 and beyond.
