Description

A fine, balanced and intense Grand Cru from Saint-Émilion

The estate

Château Grand Mayne is a great vessel in a sea of vines in the heart of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Established in the 15th century, the property did not produce wine until the 17th century. In the 18th century, the Laveau family elevated the vineyard and estate to the top of the appellation. In 1934, the Nony family took over the wine estate and undertook major renovations. Today, the Nony family, still at the helm of Château Grand Mayne, continues to produce spectacular Bordeaux wines.

The vineyard

Planted on a clay-limestone hill and at the foot of a clay hill, the Château Grand Mayne vineyard covers 17 hectares, of which 15 are in production. The average age of the vines is 37 years old.

Winemaking and ageing

After the harvests, which took place from 10 September to 1 October, the berries are taken to the cellar to begin the winemaking process. The grapes ferment in thermoregulated wooden and stainless steel vats. Then, the wine ages for 18 months in barrels, of which 50% are new.

Blend

Merlot (74%), Cabernet Franc (24%), Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).

Tasting

Colour

The 2020 Château Grand Mayne showcases a beautiful, dark red colour with purple tints.

Nose

The aromatic bouquet is sustained by the great freshness of black fruits and sweet spices. Notes of graphite and cedar bring together an overall harmony.

Palate

The 2020 Château Grand Mayne is a wine with incredible balance between density and tension. Its delicately velvety and soft texture goes wonderfully with aromas of fresh red fruits and flavours of freshly ground pepper underlined by touches of oak. The very fine tannins extend into the beautifully long finish. This cuvée elegantly bears the signature of a great vintage.
