Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château La Croix du Casse 2023

Tasting

Nose
The nose is seduced by its intense fruity weave.

Palate
The palate combines a beautiful tannic structure with a persistent freshness.

A full-bodied and lively Pomerol red wine

The estate

Owned by the Castéja family since 2005, the Château La Croix du Casse is a very serious reference of the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Equipped with high-performance tools and benefiting from an exceptional vineyard, the estate stands out for its great Pomerol wines full of charm and seduction expressing all the typicity of the appellation.

The vineyard

Located at the southern tip of the Pomerol plateau, the vineyard of Château La Croix du Casse extends over a terroir characteristic of the appellation, made up of gravel and ancient sands with a sub-layer containing a significant proportion of iron slag.

The vintage

A late bud break due to alternating mild and cool periods in March precedes a spring whose humid and warm conditions lead to high mildew pressure. Subsequently, more clement weather promotes homogeneous flowering, as well as fruit set. Warm, the month of June is punctuated by rainy episodes sometimes stormy, before a dry and relatively cool July. Slow and progressive, the veraison gives the berries a refreshing acidity. The high temperatures recorded from August 15th result in a significant slowdown in maturation without losing aromatic richness.

Blend

Merlot (96%)
Cabernet Franc (4%).
