Medium-bodied, soft, fresh and sweet, but a bit light on the red-berry filled mid-palate. The fruit is clean, pure and elegant. Drink from 2023-2031. 87-89

Spicy red fruits, dried flowers, savory herbs, and a touch of leather all emerge from the 2021 Château La Rose Figeac, a medium-bodied, focused, firmer yet still enjoyable Pomerol. It will keep for a decade.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

La Rose Figeac 2021 is organic and has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It features notes of wild sage and dried lavender, leading to hints of raspberry leaves, fresh cranberries, and cedar. Light to medium-bodied, the palate has appealing freshness, with well-managed, soft tannins and a soft-spoken finish.

Description

The complexity and smoothness of a red wine from Pomerol

The estate

From 1938 onwards, Louis Rapin acquired vineyards in the Montagne Saint-Émilion and Saint-Émilion appellations, including those of Château La Tour Figeac. Following the acquisition of various plots of vines in 1961, Louis Rapin renamed the estate Château La Rose Figeac. This Pomerol vineyard on the right bank of Bordeaux has been managed by Nathalie Despagne since 2013. As soon as she took on this role, Nathalie Despagne carried out extensive work to elevate Château La Rose Figeac’s reputation in the Pomerol appellation.

The vineyard

Château La Rose Figeac 2021 is a Pomerol wine made from a 4.56-hectare vineyard, located in the southeast of Pomerol on typical sandy-gravel soils. With the ploughing, grassing and green work, the plots of vines, aged 30 years old on average, are cultivated in an organic manner, certified by Ecocert since 2009.

Vinification

Manual harvesting. Sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar in a densimetric sorter. Traditional and parcel-based vinification. Cold pre-fermentation vatting for 3 days. Thermo-regulated alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Racking, delestage and light punching of the cap. Maceration for 2 to 3 weeks before running off for malolactic fermentation in 225 and 500 litre barrels. Pigeage of the Cabernets in 60 hl tanks. Aged in barrels (60% new, 20% in second-fill barrels, 20% in 500 litre barrels for the whole vinification process).

The blend

Merlot (80%)

Cabernet Franc (20%).
