Description

An elegant and aromatic red wine from Haut-Médoc

The estate

The Château Lanessan vineyard has belonged to the Bouteiller family since the 18th century. Eight generations of this same family have succeeded each other at the helm of the estate. Since 2020, the management of the property has been entrusted to a new team, which has strengthened the historic partnership with the famous Médoc winemaker Eric Boissenot. "The challenge is to remain loyal to our region while adapting to consumer expectations." The Château Lanessan stands out today as one of the most beautiful properties in Haut-Médoc.

The vineyard

The Château Lanessan vineyard spans 42 hectares. Aged 20 years on average, the vines are planted on deep Garonne gravel upon clay-gravel subsoils.

The vintage

The mildness during the winter encouraged an early budding, followed by a quick and homogeneous vine development. The summer was hot, but without water stress. A rainy episode before 15 August refined the ripeness, aromatic potential, colour and a perfect balance between alcohol, acidity and tannins.

The winemaking and ageing

Harvested at full ripeness, the grapes are subject to a rigorous selection by optical sorting. Fermentation in thermoregulated concrete tanks precedes a 12-month ageing in 225-litre French oak barrels (1/3 new barrels, 1/3 one-year-old barrels and 1/3 two-year-old barrels).

The blend

Château Lanessan 2020 is made from a blend of cabernet sauvignon (52%), merlot (43%) and petit verdot (5%).

The tasting

Colour

The wine displays a beautiful, deep colour with purple tints.

Nose

The nose mixes intense fruity aromas (cherries, blackberries) with spicy, liquorice and roasted notes.

Palate

The palate seduces with its round attack and its powerful and elegant tannins with a remarkable balance. Made in a classic style, this wine reveals the characteristics of a great vintage through its freshness and its persistent length.
