Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Enticing, with a light mulled spice note moving amid the red and black currant fruit, while flashes of bramble, alder, juniper and tobacco skitter through. Reserved but lengthy in feel through the finish, with latent grip and a smoldering tobacco detail. Best from 2030 through 2032. 25,000 cases made.

Decanter

An excellent Lascombes in 2015. The fruit has tightened up and slowed down, with great depth to the finely grained tannic structure. Deep liquorice, damson, cassis and loganberry flavours are well balanced against the grilled oak notes and silky texture. Confident and poised. 70% new oak.

James Suckling

Immediate depth to the aromas of dark cherries, plums and blackberries with subtly spicy and cedary oak amid stony, minerally accents. The palate has immense depth and presence without relying on brute force. This is all about charm and fluidity. Superb wine. Try from 2023.

Tasted blind. Second bottle: sweet, rounded and utterly pleasing. Easy minerality. Chewy finish. (JR)

Powerful, deep and flamboyant, the 2015 Lascombes is one of the most overt, concentrated wines readers will find in Margaux. Inky blue/purplish fruit, chocolate, spice, lavender and new leather are all super-concentrated. Even with all of its obvious fruit intensity, the 2015 has a good bit of supporting structure as well. There is no question Lascombes is a technically well-made wine. But I always find myself wondering if this site has more to say than what comes through in this delicious, but somewhat anonymous, Margaux. Tasted two times.

Dark in color, the wine is deep, the fruits are dark, there is flesh, sweetness and oak, but the texture is voluptuous, and with all that ripe fruit, everything works, coming together nicely.

Dark ruby, with an opaque core, purple highlights, and a delicate bright rim. On the nose some sweet spice, with dark wild berry fruit; it is still a bit closed. Sweet fruit on the palate, with good complexity, a chocolate touch, and supporting tannins. It is slightly too low in acidity to be considered a wine of great finesse, and it tends to dry out a little on the finish.

Dense dark purple core. Youthful nose, fine intensity and purity with finely toasted wood, coffee, mocha, dark berries, cassis, tobacco and graphite. The palate is dense and concentrated with high extract, powdery tannin, a fresh acidity underneath, layered dark fruit with floral hints, wet tobacco and fine wood, very good grip and length. Persistent, dense and fresh with a promising future but already quite tempting.

A big, bombastic wine from this estate that offers serious amounts of sweet currants, blackberry jam, licorice and oak, the 2015 Château Lascombes has beautiful depth of fruit, a thick, opulent texture and sweet tannin. It’s not going to appeal to the traditionalist out there, but it’s a smokin’ good bottle of wine. Give it 3-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 42 hl/ha. Ruby garnet with a dense core. An alluring bouquet of ripe plums and dark chocolate notes. On the second nose, blackberry jelly, liquorice, and Earl Grey notes. On the powerful palate, a tightly knit, brawny body with ripe extract and brilliant fruit sweetness. The aromatic, long-lasting finish ends with noble astringency, walnut, perfumed pipe tobacco, and dark minerality.

René Gabriel

Extremely dark purple with lilac and violet highlights. Crazy bouquet, herbal tea notes, candied fruit, very ripe redcurrants and hints of cassis; the bouquet is powerful and shows full Margaux sweetness. On the palate, this sweet fruit power continues and is beguiling. In the end, the finish unfortunately lacks a bit of drive to catapult the whole thing further.

Closed, dense, complex, concentrated bouquet: strawberry jelly, raspberry eau-de-vie, flint, pepper, licorice. Powerful, aromatic, closed palate with plenty of fine tannins, velvety fruit, pronounced aromatics, a finely muscular structure, and a very long, aromatic finish. Still has room to improve. 18/20 2022 - 2040

This is one to look out for, with softly extracted brambled fruits, traces of crème de cassis heat from the vintage conditions balanced by mandarin peel, pomegranate, even lemongrass, slate texture. Very impressive 2015, with the joyful character you expect from Lascombes. Maceration heads up to 40 days at this point, and the tannins and grilled sandalwood swamp the fruit a little, but there is plenty to enjoy here. 70% new oak, 42 hl/ha yield, harvest September 17 to October 15.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Lascombes 2015 is medium to deep garnet in color. It is a little broody to start, opening out to deliver notes of warm cassis, black cherry compote, and fruitcake plus hints of charcoal and violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with juicy black fruits, supported by fine-grained tannins and just enough freshness, with a fragrant finish.

Very ripe, dense, with a massive edge—a solid, well-structured Margaux. At the expense of a certain finesse…

Le Figaro Vin

The color is dense, a striking black. The nose is slightly restrained, with spice and blackberry. The wine is concentrated and broad, with beautiful substance and a superb mid-palate; the grapes are ripe, and the whole is of a rarely achieved elegance. The greatest Lascombes in half a century, rivaling the majestic 1945.

Garnet red with violet highlights. What a nose! It combines complexity and generosity with notes of red berries, spices, and cocoa beans. I also note the pleasant varietal freshness, which is perfect in this concept. The attack on the palate is juicy, fruity, and refreshing. A superb symbiosis of elegance, density, and freshness. The tannins are perfectly integrated and in harmony with the structure, which provides excellent support and imparts freshness. Persistent finish. A great success.

Beautiful fruity, creamy nose reminiscent of the Right Bank. Velvety, juicy palate that builds powerfully on the finish, with very good aromatic length.

Wine Enthusiast

Roger Voss

This is a powerful wine, with wood aging that adds richness to the dense tannins. Some tough extraction has not detracted from the ripe fruit or structure and will go as the wine matures. It should be ready to drink from 2026.

Description

The aromatic richness and elegance of a Second Grand Cru Classé from Margaux

The property
Bearing the surname of Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes since the 17th century, the Château Lascombes is marked by the imprint of the ten generations of owners who have shaped its history. Since 2011, the mutualist group MACSF has been the owner. The wines of Château Lascombes are recognized as being among the greatest of the Margaux appellation.

The vineyard
120 hectares in the Margaux appellation and 10 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation make up the vineyard of this Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
This vineyard is planted on a mosaic of plots whose soils are composed, depending on their location, of a gravelly mound, clayey gravels, and clay-limestone plots. Uniquely compared to other Margaux crus, the grape variety of the Château Lascombes vineyard is mainly composed of merlot, then cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot.

Vinification and aging
Harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted and then destemmed. A slight crushing is carried out before vatting. The pre-fermentation maceration lasts 10 days at 8°C. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by traditional vinification with light daily pump-overs to promote extraction. After malolactic fermentation in barrels, the aging on lees lasts 4 months.

Blend
50 % cabernet sauvignon, 47 % merlot and 3 % petit verdot.
