Château Marquis de Terme 2015

Belongs to the estates in Margaux that have made notable progress in recent years: crafted with precision, full-bodied, with polished tannins; once again deserves complete confidence.

Brambly, juicy and energetic, with anise, plum cake and blackberry compote notes inlaid with brambly tannins. A light black tea streak adds nuance on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2032. 12,500 cases made.

A great vintage, warm but retaining freshness. This is concentrated and beautiful, with so much depth, clarity, and finely turned tannins. It's not the perfect moment to drink this wine because it has closed down a little; I would give it another few years, but there is so much potential on display, with richness and depth to the texture, muscular yet with freshness running through it. Excellent potential here.

Fragrant blackberries married to moderate vanilla oak on the nose. Then cue an elegant, moderately tannic palate with some real sophistication. What a seductive wine. I love the long, clean, dry and mineral finish that makes you sure this has a couple of decades ahead of it, even if it drinks well now.

Tasted blind. Sweet, perfumed. Dry finish but with good energy. Just a bit too austere on the end though. (JR)

It's great to see the 2015 Marquis de Terme in such fine shape. Sumptuous and radiant, with notable presence, the 2015 has a lot to offer. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, blood orange and spice build in the glass as this flamboyant, sumptuous Margaux shows off its winning personality. Although decidedly bold, the 2015 has a gracious side as well. In 2015, the blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot.

The floral notes on the perfume, paired with bushels of black, red and blue fruit, licorice and earthy nuances, entice you to take a sip. If the nose didn’t grab you, the luscious, silky-textured layers of ripe, vibrant, elegant and pure fruits should win you over. This is in a great spot and it sells for a song for a Classified Growth at this level. Drink from 2023–2040.

Deep ruby with purple reflections and discreet rim brightening. Ripe dark forest berry fruit, delicate hints of liquorice, a touch of cherry and some candied orange. Juicy and elegant with ripe cherry, fine extract sweetness and silky tannins, remains well lasting, has future certain ageing potential.

Another gem from Margaux is the 2015 Marquis De Terme, and this supple, full-bodied, concentrated beauty boasts a deep ruby/purple color along with terrific purity in its ripe cassis fruits, violets/spring flowers, obvious minerality, and background oak. Like most 2015s, it’s already beautiful and shows the sweet fruit of the vintage, yet should keep for at least two decades. Tasted twice.

Silky, fresh, mineral bouquet, strawberries, cassis, mint, tobacco. Classic, fine, elegant palate with good fruit, fine tannins, tightly woven structure, powerful, sweet aromatics, long, delicate finish. Can improve further. 17/20 2023 - 2040

Deep garnet with a touch of brick, the 2015 Marquis de Terms features notes of cigar box, new leather, and dried herbs, with a core of cassis and stewed plums and a waft of fruitcake. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is a tad hollow and chewy, finishing on a stewed tea note. This is mature now but should keep another 10 years.

It is developing well and softening on the palate. The élevage is integrating, and the texture won us over with its freshness. Beautiful balance.

The color is a deep black with an exquisitely complex nose. The wine is dense and smooth, both deep and immensely charming. The finish is very classy, with a subtle blend of elegance and power. 2015 is the greatest Marquis de Terme in a very long time. A major success in the 2015 vintage.

Garnet red with violet highlights. Expressive bouquet revealing floral and mineral notes. Lively, indulgent attack that clearly reflects its terroir. On the palate, the wine is creamy and pleasantly refreshing. The tannins still need to soften a little, but they provide good substance in line with the structure.

The nose is elegant, straight, fruity and shows fine concentration. It reveals notes of blackcurrant, licorice, blackberry and strawberry, combined with touches of crushed redcurrant as well as subtle hints of chocolate, caramelized oak, spices/grey pepper and delicate accents of violet. The palate is fruity, mineral, balanced and racy, offering roundness, a touch of richness, an airy feel, fine linearity, beautiful minerality, a subtle underlying gourmandise and a lively acid spine. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blackberry, fresh/ripe redcurrant and strawberry, with a hint of raspberry, subtle touches of caramelized oak and vanilla, and a delicate hint of almond. The tannins are fine. Good length.

This is a ripe, juicy wine, showing the improvements at this potentially fine estate. Dense tannins and succulent fruit come together to give a wine that is both structured and complex. The black-currant and berry flavors are underlined with a ripe structure. Drink from 2024.
