A savoury and balanced red wine from Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

The Château Montlandrie is from a 15-hectare vineyard in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. It is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc.

At tasting, the wine shows an interesting red colour. On the nose, the wine has a great complexity with its scents of orange peel, toasted oak and a hint of minerality. On the palate, the Château Montlandrie 2011 appears to be quite lively in its balance. It presents a dense structure, which is a classical marker of a wine from clay soil and relief. It reveals fresh fruit and cherry stone flavours. This wine offers a great length in its aromas. It requires 2 to 3 hours of aeration.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
A thrilling offering from proprietor Denis Durantou (who also owns Pomerol's l'Eglise-Clinet), this blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc is a surprisingly large-scaled Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon revealing a dense ruby/purple color as well as lots of sweet mulberry, kirsch, black currant, licorice, spring flower and graphite notes. Medium to full-bodied as well as remarkably concentrated, this wine outperforms many of Bordeaux's more famous names in this vintage. A stunner in quality and value, it can be enjoyed over the next 10+ years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.
