Château Pape Clément 2009: A Pessac-Léognan of Great Complexity

The Château Pape Clément comes from the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves. The 50-hectare vineyard has its vines growing in Pyrenean gravel. The harvest started on September 24, and after the wine was aged in oak barrels for 18 months. Château Pape Clément 2009 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.

The Château Pape Clément 2009 presents an incredible structure and magnificent tannins. On the nose, it reveals its graphite and burnt earth terroir with notes of blueberries, blackberries and vanilla. This is a full-bodied wine with great complexity. It can be drunk now or kept until 2040.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2009 Pape Clement struts flamboyantly out of the glass, featuring beautifully opulent preserved black fruits, Morello cherries and Chinese five spice with underlying notions of truffles, iron ore and tobacco plus a waft of sandalwood. Full-bodied, the voluptuous fruit has a firm foundation of super ripe, grainy tannins and bags of freshness supporting layer upon layer of black fruit, exotic spices and earth-laced flavors, finishing very long.
