Description
The style of a great red wine from Haut-Médoc built for aging
The estate
Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, at the gates of Pauillac, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a true haven of greenery. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone significant restructuring and modernization, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Classified as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Peyrabon is an excellent reference for Haut-Médoc. It offers wines that are representative of the appellation, elegant and powerful, destined for superb aging potential.
The vineyard
In the commune of Saint-Sauveur Médoc, this Haut-Médoc vineyard extends over approximately 37 hectares of vines with an average age of 28 years, planted on sandy gravel resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils are found on 5 hectares of the vineyard. The vineyard benefits from ISO14001-2015 and HVE (High Environmental Value) certification with phytosanitary protection carried out using sustainable practices.
The vintage
For this 2019 vintage, the harvest was carried out manually. It began on September 25 for the Merlot and ended on October 11 with the Cabernet.
Vinification and aging
Temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. Vinification in homogeneous batches according to anthocyanin richness mapping. Low-temperature fermentation at 24-25°C. Gentle extraction through adapted pumping over/punching down/rack and return. Average maceration period of 21 days. Pressing in controlled vertical presses to achieve very gradual extraction. Traditional aging in barrels for 14 months (25% new oak).
Blend
This Château Peyrabon 2019 is the result of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (31.5%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (3.5%).
