The producer
Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, at the gates of the Pauillac region, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a green haven. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone major work, both in the vineyard and the cellar, in order to restructure and modernise the estate. Château Peyrabon is a very fine Haut-Médoc reference, producing elegant and powerful wines which offer a promising and superb ageing potential.
The vineyard
Near the village of Saint-Sauveur Médoc, the Château Peyrabon vineyard spreads over approximately 37 hectares of vines, around twenty years old on average, rooted in sandy gravel soil and resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils can be found on 5 hectares of the vineyard.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are transferred on a vibrating sorting table, are destemmed and undergo optical sorting. The plot by plot vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, with approrpiate pumping over and racking, in order to ensure a gentle extraction. Maceration for 19 to 24 days. The presses are separated and selected after tasting. The wine is aged for 14 months in barrels (25% new wood) and are then fined in tanks.
The blend
This Château Peyrabon 2015 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (6.5%) and Petit Verdot (3.5%).
The tasting
Nose
Expressive, the nose gives off red (redcurrant) and black (cherry) fruit fragrances. When aired, this wine unveils subtle hints of balsamic vinegar and cedar wood, providing it with a nice freshness.
Palate
Persistent and fruity, this wine seduces the palate with its subtle acidity, elegant tannins and seductive structure.
The 2015 Peyrabon has a perfumed bouquet driven by the 51% Merlot, crushed strawberry and redcurrant aromas neatly entwined with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity, good density towards the finish that delivers an attractive spiced aftertaste. This is very fine and should drink well for a decade.
