Vinum

Delicate fragrance, pineapple, citrus fruits, preserved lemon, roasted nuts, almond blossoms, figs; dense palate, creamy texture, very fine balance of sweetness and acidity, the fruit is crisp, the elements are in harmony, remarkable length, great length, citrus and papaya on the finish. An excellent Suduiraut that will be enjoyable at every stage of its life.

Decanter

Vibrant and tropical, with juicy pineapple, ripe mango and zesty citrus lifted by bright acidity. Layers of ginger and saffron spice add complexity, while a mineral streak keeps it precise. The botrytis influence is pronounced yet elegant, giving a refreshing finish without cloying sweetness. 130g/l residual sugar.

100% Sémillon. RS 130 g/l. 11.5 hl/ha. Cask sample. Burnished gold. Fresh and expressive on the nose with pineapple, mandarin and honeyed notes. Sweet palate but not heavy or overblown, tempered by the bitter-botrytised freshness and finish. Very pure and absolutely delicious. (JL)

White peaches, pineapples, vanilla, lemon curd, honey, saffron, apricots, and candied tangerines get the wine going. Sweet, intense, opulent, and most importantly, vibrant, this sweet treat is going to be fabulous to enjoy young. But, if you are able to keep your hands off it, the wine can age for decades. The wine was made from 100% Semillon. Drink from 2028-2060. 95-97 pts

Vertdevin

The nose is aromatic, revealing notes of apricot, quince and, more subtly, fresh pineapple, with touches of verbena, a fine hint of eucalyptus, discreet hints of ginger, a subtle touch of spice and a note of candied orange peel. Lovely minerality. The palate is well-crafted, supple, and offers richness, roundness, precise definition and indulgence. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of lemon paste, pineapple in syrup and, more delicately, crystallized mandarin, combined with touches of vineyard peach paste, hints of mango, as well as fine hints of apricot blossom, ginger, candied mandarin, vanilla, small nuts and a subtle, almost toasty note on the finish. Lovely persistence. A beautifully crafted wine—gourmet, creamy, balanced and elegant. A very discreet hint of verbena (in the background) guides the tasting.

Description

A Premier Cru Classé from Sauternes of great complexity

The property

Founded in the 16th century, the Château Suduiraut is a jewel of the Sauternes appellation, in the Bordeaux region. This historic estate, Premier Cru Classé since 1855, extends over 92 hectares of sandstone, clay and limestone soils, conducive to the production of exceptional sweet wines. The gardens designed by André Le Nôtre and the 17th century architecture add to the prestige of the place. Today, under the ownership of the AXA group, the château perpetuates a tradition of rigor and excellence, mainly cultivating sémillon, with vinification in oak barrels.

The vineyard

The Sauternes vineyard benefits from a particular microclimate created by the confluence of the Ciron and the Garonne, promoting the development of Botrytis cinerea, this "noble rot" essential for the production of great sweet wines. The plots selected for Château Suduiraut 2024 are planted on sandy-clay gravel soils that bring minerality and freshness to the wine, while allowing deep rooting of the vines.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a particularly rainy winter and early spring, with mild temperatures causing an early bud break of the vines, about 10 days ahead of normal. The cool and wet spring slowed vegetative growth, with a very rainy May increasing mildew pressure. The hot and dry summer allowed disease control and slowed vine vigor, promoting optimal ripening. Early September rains followed by sunny and windy weather created ideal conditions for the development of botrytis.

Vinification and aging

At Château Suduiraut 2024, the harvest took place between September 19 and October 24 in four successive passes to select only perfectly botrytized grapes. After a gentle pneumatic pressing of about 3 hours, followed by a vertical pressing for the most concentrated juices, the musts were cold settled at 10°C. The alcoholic fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels (50% new) for 2 to 3 weeks, before being stopped by cooling and sulfiting to preserve residual sugars. The aging is 16 to 20 months in barrels, 50% of which are new and 50% of a wine.

Grape variety

This Château Suduiraut 2024 is a 100% sémillon.
