Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Château Trotanoy 2023
Tasting
Color
The color reveals a deep, dark hue, with violet reflections that highlight the youthfulness of this red wine.
Nose
The nose displays fine aromatic complexity, blending notes of ripe dark fruit (plum, black cherry, blackberry) with touches of chocolate, fresh herbs, and violet. A distinctive minerality, reminiscent of pencil lead, underlines the whole.
Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its firm structure and silky, velvety tannins. The mid-palate reveals fine fruit concentration supported by a mineral backbone and subtle oak. The present acidity brings essential freshness, leading to a remarkably long finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with grilled or crusted red meats, such as beef Wellington, as well as with braised lamb or feathered game. It also goes wonderfully with wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil, dishes with umami flavors, or aged hard cheeses such as old Comté or Parmesan.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate Château Trotanoy 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 15.5°C and to decant it for two to three hours while young. Built for long aging, this wine will reveal its full potential from around 2030 and can be cellared until around 2058.

The Estate
Founded in 1761 in France, Château Trotanoy is an iconic estate in the Bordeaux region. Its distinctive name comes from the old term "trop anoi," reflecting the difficulty of working its dense soils. Acquired in 1953 by Jean-Pierre Moueix, the estate is now run by Christian Moueix and his son Édouard. This intimate 7.2-hectare vineyard produces wines renowned for their longevity and bold character, establishing itself as one of the key references of its appellation.
The Vineyard
Located at the highest point of the Pomerol plateau, the vineyard benefits from a west-facing exposure and a favorable microclimate that spared it from the historic frosts of 1956. The vines, averaging 35 to 40 years old, thrive on a complex terroir made up of equal parts gravel and clay, resting on a subsoil rich in iron pan. The estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE3), reflecting biodiversity-friendly viticultural practices.
The Vintage
The year began with a cool, wet spring, causing coulure and millerandage, which naturally regulated yields. These challenging spring conditions were followed by a particularly hot summer, promoting optimal ripening and excellent berry concentration through to the late harvest.
Vinification and Aging
After a double manual and optical sorting, the berries of Château Trotanoy 2023 are fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats at 26°C for approximately three weeks. Aging lasts approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 50% of which are new. The wine is then fined with egg whites before bottling, without prior filtration.
