Vinum

Expressive, with plenty of dark fruit, a stony undertone, and floral notes with air; crisp on the palate, densely built, excellent tannins, ripe fruit, great length; finishes red-fruited on sour cherries. A very elegant Trotte-Vieille!

Decanter

Dark nose, such a TrotteVieille signature scent. Fragrant, spiced blackcurrant, deeply scented and heady notes on the nose. Structured and supple, this has energy and movement but with a layered structure and filling texture; so precise, yet it’s the texture that captivates—nothing harsh, not too tart or too acidic, round and plump but not overly plush, with a soft chew to the tannins. This is fabulous! Gorgeous purity and precision and an elegant length. Well balanced with a gorgeous lick of minerality and saltiness. Supremely stylish, feels complete but just toned down a notch—and all the better for it. 100% new oak. Quite accomplished. 3.4–3.5 pH.

Plum liqueur, flowers, licorice, and black cherries, with dark chocolate notes open the perfume. On the palate, the wine is plush, opulent, ripe, and deep. The fruits are bright, fresh, and most importantly, express a touch of minerality with its salty-edged fruits. There is lift, as well as purity, length and creamy tannins in the finish. The wine blends 53% Cabernet Franc, 44% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15% ABV. The harvest took place September 8 - October 4. The extended harvest is due to a parcel by parcel selection process, waiting for each block to achieve phenolic ripeness. Drink from 2028-2055. 94-96 Pts.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate rim brightening. Fresh and precise aroma, floral, cassis, blackberry, pepper, cranberry. On the palate, it shows very dense and full-bodied, simultaneously powerful and with fine tannins, creamy base, very good finish. Juicy, has pronounced minerality, high degree of dynamism and certain ageing potential.

Le Figaro Vin

Score: 94–96. On the nose, bright, beguiling fruit with penetrating purity, aromas of blackcurrant and ripe plum that soften into sumptuously musky tones with hints of violet. On the palate, a sphere of succulent, fresh, blossoming fruit, whose mineral energy radiates from its dense, juicy core for a very refined whole. A mouthwatering, saline finish.

Description

The freshness and precision of a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion

The estate

The origin of the name "Trottevieille" dates back several hundred years. Legend has it that near the castle was a stagecoach stop. As soon as a team stopped, the old lady would trot down to get the news, hence the name Trotte Vieille. Château Trotte Vieille is a Premier Grand Cru Classé whose uniqueness is to hold a small plot of vines that survived the terrible episode of phylloxera that occurred during the second half of the 19th century.

The vineyard

This Château Trotte Vieille 2022 is a Saint-Émilion wine from a 12-hectare vineyard, planted on reddish soils with a limestone subsoil.

The vintage

A late bud break due to alternating mild and cool periods in March precedes a spring whose humid and warm conditions lead to high mildew pressure. Subsequently, more clement weather promotes homogeneous flowering, as well as fruit set. Warm, the month of June is punctuated by rainy episodes sometimes stormy, before a dry and relatively cool month of July. Slow and progressive, the veraison gives the berries a refreshing acidity. The high temperatures recorded from August 15th have the consequence of a significant slowdown in maturations without losing in aromatic richness.

Blend

This Château Trotte Vieille 2023 is made from a blend of Cabernet Franc (53%), Merlot (44%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%).
