Decanter

Ripe and heady blackcurrant aromas on the nose. Smells concentrated but fresh too. Supple and so juicy, really beautiful acidity giving tension but matched to ripe strawberries which give a gentle chew and a cooling blueberry touch with a chalky, flint and graphite finish. Friendly, balanced, smooth. There’s power but energy and elegance – this is beautiful, such a gorgeous texture. Great minerality with chalky tannins but nothing too much or out of place. A real wine of its place. A yield of 28hl/ha. 3.40pH. Malolactic fermentation in tank then ageing in just less than 40% new oak and the rest in one year old barrels 58% and 2% clay amphora.

Smoke, licorice, charcoal, black raspberries, espresso, dark chocolate, a mix, and floral aromatics open the perfume. On the palate, the wine is elegant, energetic, deep, and long. There is a sense of refinement in the fruit, paired with depth, concentration, and a relaxed attitude, finishing with layers of sweet, round, polished, juicy fruit. The finish wraps everything up nicely with lingering black cherries, espresso, and licorice, and a complicated endnote that includes its mineral essence. The wine blends 84% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% ABV, 3.4 pH. The harvest took place, September 9 - September 22. Yields were 28 hectoliters per hectare. In the cellars, Clos Fourtet continues making adjustments so that now, malolactic fermentation takes place in vat, and there is less new oak used for the elevage. The wine is aging in 40% new, French oak barrels. Drink from 2030-2060. 97-99 Pts

Fragrant, intense and vivid opening, rose bud, violet flowers, intense and chalky. These are powerful tannins, chalk, pumice stone, a slow and gentle build through the palate, every time you think it is done it just gives a little bit more. Concentrated, elegant, savoury and just so tasty. 3.4pH. Harvest September 8 to 22. 40% new oak.

What a magnificent symbiosis of chalky and floral nuances, joined by notes of blueberries, liquorice and peppermint. The precision, attention to detail and purity create an extraordinary harmony. On the palate, the structure’s saline, chiselled, incisive character is beautifully framed by a creamy texture. This also allows the tannins to fully express their strength, alongside the acidity, which only further enhances the wine’s temperament and freshness. A vibrant Clos Fourtet of rare depth, with an endless finish underscored by delicate bitters. An exceptional Clos Fourtet!

Deep dark colour. Intense, refined, fruity and pure nose, with notes of black fruits, liquorice and fig. Southern in character when swirled in the glass. Full on the attack, smooth through the mid-palate, also very fresh, with a rich, creamy texture; the wine melts from the mid-palate onward. It finishes long and savoury, with a sappy, slightly firm yet well-coated finish. Blend: 84% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol content: 14% – pH: 3.40. Yield: 28 hl/ha. Production: 50,000 bottles. Harvest: 9 to 22 September 2025.

A great Saint-Émilion wine with limestone brilliance and a luminous profile

The estate
Located on the right bank of Bordeaux, Clos Fourtet 2025 is a historic estate, formerly known as Camfourtet, which obtained its rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1955. This prestigious property makes a lasting impression with its exceptional network of thirteen hectares of underground cellars. Since its acquisition in 2001, the Cuvelier family has been at the helm of the estate. Today, Philippe Cuvelier and his son Matthieu, the current manager, perpetuate the excellence of this vineyard, combining respect for tradition with precision viticulture to enhance this unique terroir.

The vineyard
Spanning 22 hectares, the vineyard sits atop the highest slopes of the western plateau of Saint-Émilion, just at the foot of the famous Grandes Murailles. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on the renowned starfish limestone. The estate favours an environmentally respectful approach, incorporating organic and biodynamic practices to preserve biodiversity.

The vintage
The year began with excellent water reserves, encouraging an early and consistent budburst. After a mild spring with little rainfall, flowering took place a week ahead of schedule. An early water shortage led to the formation of small, highly concentrated berries. The summer proved hot and dry, marked by significant temperature variations. Fortunately, providential rainfall at the end of July and August allowed the ripening process to reach an ideal conclusion. The harvest thus took place under the best conditions between 9 and 22 September.

Winemaking and ageing
To craft Clos Fourtet 2025, the grape clusters undergo rigorous manual sorting before being received by gravity. Fermentation begins naturally with whole berries in twenty-five small temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Extraction is gentle, carried out through manual punching down, with vatting lasting 21 to 26 days. After malolactic fermentation in vats, the wine is aged in the estate's vast underground galleries for 14 to 18 months. This ageing is divided between 40% new barrels, 58% one-wine barrels and 2% jars. Alcohol content: 14% vol.

Grape varieties
84% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon.
