The estate
Created in the early 20th century by Armand Foreau, grandfather of Philippe Foreau, the Domaine du Clos Naudin extends over 12 hectares of chenin blanc, of which 10.70 hectares are in production, in the north-east of Vouvray in the Loire. Philippe Foreau, the current owner since 1983, has been working with his son Vincent since 2015. This family estate stands out for its organic methods, its cellars carved into tuffeau and its minimalist philosophy. With only 55,000 bottles produced annually, Clos Naudin represents, alongside Domaine Huet, the absolute excellence of the Vouvray appellation.
The vineyard
The Clos Naudin vines thrive on clay-siliceous soils lying on a limestone subsoil within the Vouvray appellation. With an average vine age of 38 years, the grapes benefit from excellent concentration. Traditional, sustainable viticulture excludes the use of chemical herbicides, favoring mechanical and manual soil work.
Winemaking and aging
The production of the Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut 2019 follows a rigorous process beginning with exclusively manual harvests. It undergoes approximately 8 months of aging in old 300-liter oak barrels. Bottling always takes place before summer, between April and May. Disgorgement was carried out in June 2023. No chaptalization or acidification is practiced, respecting the natural expression of the terroir. Matured for 3 years in cellars.
Grape variety
100% chenin blanc.
