Robert Parker

Joe Czerwinski

Honeyed citrus and lightly floral overtones appear on the nose of the 2019 Condrieu la Galopine. While full-bodied and plush, this isn't the strongest effort from Delas in recent years, although it does have a nicely silky mouthfeel and a lingering finish.

Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Ripe, flattering style, with a brioche frame around the mix of mirabelle, creamed peach, nectarine, acacia and lemon curd notes. Everything knits nicely through the unctuous finish. Drink now through 2025. 1,500 cases made, 50 cases imported.

James Suckling

Here’s a wine for those who often find Condrieu too soft and/or rich. I love the ripe-peach and pineapple aromas and the restrained richness (in the context of this appellation that tends to opulence), a hint of grapefruit pith-like bitterness accentuating the impression of freshness. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast

Anna Lee C. Iijima

Notes of smoke and spice mingle into honeysuckle and lychee in this perfumed, fruity white. The palate is opulent and creamy, packed with white peach, lychee and apricot flavors. It is freshened by a lingering mineral crush and hints of fresh herb and leaf. Enjoy this complex, hedonistic wine now through 2030.

A white wine from Condrieu marked by finesse and precision

The property

Founded in 1835, the Maison Delas Frères is a reference among the wines of the Northern Rhône Valley. While its purchase by the Champagne House Deutz in 1977 marks the beginning of a new era, the development of the house internationally will continue thanks to its acquisition in 1993 by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholder of the Louis Roederer group.

The vineyard

Maison Delas Frères oversees a vineyard spread over three exceptional appellations of the Rhône Valley : Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. In order to magnify the expression of each of these terroirs, the vinification and ageing are carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis.

The wine

La Galopine 2019 is a Condrieu wine made from grapes from three plots (Vérin, Saint Cyr sur Rhône and Chavanay).

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting before gentle pressing. Fermentation at low temperature (16°C to 18°C) in thermo-regulated vats then vinification of a part in vats and a part of the harvest (maximum 20%) in new barrels. Following malolactic fermentation, racking in air then ageing on fine lees. Bottling is carried out in the middle of April.

Blend

Viognier (100%).
