Tasting
Appearance
The appearance features a luminous pale yellow hue, enhanced by green highlights that testify to the wine's youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is fine and complex, unveiling notes of fresh citrus, notably lemon and grapefruit, accompanied by nuances of ripe apple and white flowers. A mineral dimension brings depth and elegance to the whole.
Palate
On the palate, this Riesling seduces with its harmonious balance and liveliness. The tonic acidity structures the palate with freshness, while citrus aromas persist with brilliance. The finish lingers generously, revealing herbaceous touches of sage and mint that add extra complexity.
Food and wine pairings
This Grand Cru pairs perfectly with poached crayfish, a turbot fillet with champagne sauce, or pan-seared foie gras. It also goes brilliantly with a seafood platter, river fish like trout, or goat cheese. Its freshness also makes it an excellent aperitif wine.
Service and cellaring
The Riesling Grand cru "Schlossberg" 2020 is ideally served at a temperature of 8°C. This wine has a cellaring potential until around 2040, allowing enthusiasts to keep it in the cellar to enjoy its evolution.

The estate
The Domaine Bott Geyl traces its origins back to 1795 with the planting of the first vines by Jean-Martin Geyl in Beblenheim. The union of the Bott and Geyl families in the 1950s marked the official creation of the estate. Since 1993, Jean-Christophe Bott has managed the property with a philosophy resolutely turned towards biodynamic agriculture, certified since 2002. The estate now spans approximately 15 hectares distributed across six Alsace Grands Crus, including the prestigious Schlossberg. Recognized as one of the best producers in Beblenheim, Domaine Bott Geyl has been awarded two stars in the Guide de La Revue du Vin de France, confirming its excellence.
The vineyard
The Riesling Grand cru "Schlossberg" 2020 comes from the first delimited Grand Cru in Alsace. Located between 200 and 350 meters above sea level, this vineyard benefits from an ideal south to south-east exposure. The granitic soil, composed of Thannenkirch granite and Kaysersberg migmatite, gives the wine its characteristic minerality and racy structure. The vines are cultivated using certified biodynamic agriculture, with a high planting density favoring deep rooting. Manual harvesting allows for a rigorous selection of grapes at optimal maturity.
The vintage
The year 2020 in Alsace offered favorable conditions for the production of high-quality Rieslings, allowing for perfectly ripe grapes while preserving the freshness and acidity characteristic of the grape variety.
Winemaking and aging
The Riesling Grand cru "Schlossberg" 2020 is vinified according to a minimalist approach respectful of the terroir. After a slow and delicate pressing lasting six to eighteen hours, alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks for three to six months. No enzymes, commercial yeasts, or chaptalization are added during the process. The wine is then aged on lees before bottling, followed by aging in the cellar for several months, allowing the wine to fully express its potential.
