Neal Martin

The 2022 Chablis Les Blanchots Grand Cru La Réserve de l’Obedience has a similar nose to the regular cuvée, but everything here is much more intense. There’s brilliant delineation, with plenty of citrus fruit, crushed stone and a hint of blackcurrant leaf. Wonderful! The palate is very well balanced with a crisp entry, just the right amount of bitterness and real depth, all delivered with harmony and grace. This is a very impressive Blanchot that will age with style. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.

This elegant, complex and firmly structured version is interwoven with lemon, peach, apple, floral and flint aromas and flavors. A steely edge and vibrant acidity drive the extensive aftertaste. Drink now through 2030. 290 cases made, 58 cases imported.

Description

The finesse and precision of a great Chablis Grand Cru

The property
Located in the heart of Burgundy, the Domaine Laroche is one of the emblematic names of Chablis. Its history dates back to the 9th century, testifying to a remarkable heritage. Since 2009, the estate belongs to the Advini group, which perpetuates a philosophy focused on the finesse of expression and aromatic elegance. The wines of the estate stand out for their ability to accurately reveal the uniqueness of the Chablis climates.

The vineyard
Located to the east of the hill of the grand crus, this plot benefits from a characteristic soil of Chablis, composed of Kimmeridgian marls rich in marine fossils, mixed with white clays. Of the 12.7 hectares that make up this grand cru, Domaine Laroche cultivates 4.56, facing east/southeast. This particular exposure, favoring morning sunshine, contributes to a unique microclimate and a slow maturation of the grapes. The result is wines of remarkable complexity, combining freshness and structure.

Vinification and aging
Each plot is harvested by hand, then vinified separately in order to preserve the identity of each terroir. The vinification is done in tanks or barrels depending on the profile of each batch. Only the most balanced and expressive cuvées are selected for the final blend of the Réserve de l'Obédience, whose ambition is to deliver a pure and racey interpretation of the Chablis grand cru.

Blend
This Chablis Grand Cru "Les Blanchots La Réserve de l'Obédience" 2022 from Domaine Laroche is a 100% chardonnay.
