Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Mâcon-Verzé Village "Le Monte" 2022 from Domaines Leflaive
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale yellow hue with greenish highlights, standing out for its clarity and lovely brilliance.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of citrus fruit, particularly lemon, mingled with scents of white flowers and green apple. Subtle hints of flint and very discreet oak enrich this remarkably fresh nose.
Palate
The attack is lively and taut, supported by perfectly integrated acidity. The mid-palate, moderate in volume, reveals a fine balance between richness and freshness, dominated by lemony flavours and pronounced minerality. The finish, of lovely persistence, lingers on saline, refreshing notes.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with delicate fish such as John Dory or sea bass, seafood such as scallops, or delicate white meats. It is also an excellent match for a spring vegetable risotto or cheeses such as a young Comté or a fresh goat's cheese.
Serving and cellaring
Approachable in its youth to enjoy its vibrancy, this Mâcon-Verzé Village "Le Monte" 2022 can also be cellared, where it will develop gracefully until around 2028.
Burgundian excellence by Domaine Leflaive
The estate
Founded in its modern form in 1905 by Joseph Leflaive, Domaine Leflaive is a true institution in Burgundy. Historically based in Puligny-Montrachet, the estate has expanded southwards to farm magnificent terroirs in the Mâconnais. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture since the 1990s, the domaine is now run by Brice de la Morandière, assisted by technical director Amandine Brillanceau. Renowned worldwide, Domaine Leflaive stands out for its pursuit of excellence and its determination to convey the purest expression of its terroirs through exceptional white wines.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from the "Le Monte" lieu-dit, a 0.94-hectare plot located in the Mâcon-Verzé appellation. Planted in the mid-1960s, these old vines thrive at an altitude of around 300 metres on a plateau overlooking the valley. The terroir is characterised by clay-limestone soils particularly rich in flint, ensuring optimal drainage. The entire vineyard is farmed according to the rigorous principles of biodynamics, without any synthetic inputs, in order to preserve biodiversity and soil vitality.
The vintage
In Burgundy, 2022 was marked by above-average temperatures and spells of drought. However, the plot's high-altitude location and its free-draining limestone soils enabled the vines to withstand these climatic conditions. Careful management of the harvest dates ensured optimal ripening of the berries.
Winemaking and ageing
After hand harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are gently pressed in Verzé. The musts are then transported to Puligny-Montrachet for fermentation. For this Mâcon-Verzé Village "Le Monte" 2022, alcoholic fermentation takes place 87% in concrete vats and 13% in new oak barrels. This is followed by natural malolactic fermentation, then around 10 months of ageing on the lees in the same vessels. The wine is finally racked for a further 6 months of maturation in stainless steel tanks before a very light filtration.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
