Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Domenico Clerico Capisme-e 2024
Tasting notes
Colour
Revealing a light ruby red hue, this wine boasts a beautiful, bright transparency.
Nose
The nose opens with a vibrant bouquet of red fruits, blending cherry, fresh strawberry and redcurrant. Delicate floral notes of rose petal and violet then emerge, underscored by a hint of orange zest, subtle spices and light touches of licorice and earth.
Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate offers a fleshy texture and juicy flavours of morello cherry and redcurrant. The acidity is fresh and vibrant, perfectly balanced by fine, supple, chalky tannins. The finish is long and persistent, marked by fruit, subtle mineral notes and a light touch of vanilla.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with braised or roasted meats, such as beef with herbs or veal in sauce. It also complements game dishes with mushrooms, rich pasta dishes (porcini risotto, meat-filled agnolotti) as well as aged cheeses such as Parmesan or Pecorino.
Service and storage
The Capisme-e 2024 is a wine that can be enjoyed right now thanks to its fruity, approachable profile, while still offering fine structure.
The expression of Nebbiolo in the Langhe appellation
The estate
Founded in 1976 by Domenico Clerico and his wife Giuliana, the estate is located in Monforte d'Alba, in Piedmont. Having grown from four to twenty-one hectares, this estate has played a major role in modernising the wines of the region. The Domenico Clerico estate stands out for its organic viticulture and its commitment to purely expressing its terroir. Today, Giuliana Clerico is the owner, while the management of the vineyard and winery is handled by her nephew Orlando, alongside longtime cellar master Gianmatteo Raineri.
The vineyard
The grapes come exclusively from the Bricco San Pietro cru, located in the commune of Monforte d'Alba in the Langhe region. This vineyard, farmed organically, is planted on Sant'Agata fossil marls, composed of fine, silty and clay-rich sediments. The vines, aged between 15 and 20 years, are subject to limited yields to encourage fruit concentration.
The vintage
2024 offered favourable weather conditions. The growing cycle allowed the grapes to reach optimal phenolic ripeness, while avoiding excessive heat. This climatic balance preserved the natural freshness and acidity of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
The Capisme-e 2024 grapes are harvested by hand in early October. After careful selection, the berries undergo a short skin maceration of five to seven days. Fermentation is initiated using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for ten months, mostly in stainless steel tanks, while a small portion is refined in ceramic amphorae to add complexity.
