Hermitage Red 2002 of E. Guigal : a charming wine
The Hermitage Rouge of E. Guigal is a single-varietal Syrah red wine produced in the Hermitage appellation. This cuvée is made from famous plots of Beaumes, Bessards, Méal and Hermite. The vines are aged 30 years on average and benefit from soils consisting of clay-limestone and sandy-gravel limestone. The wine is matured in oak barrels (of which 50% are new barrels) for 36 months.
From a deep ruby red colour with purplish reflections, the 2002 red Hermitage of E. Guigal gives off a nose complex with spicy, fruity (small red fruits) and subtly woody notes. In the mouth, the wine is solid and the tannins are very present. This red 2002 Hermitage reveals tasty touches of blackcurrant and vanilla, followed by a finish that offers more spicy flavours (licorice). A refined and charming wine to consume right now.
