Description
A complex and sophisticated Tuscan red wine by Fattoria Le Pupille
The producer
Located in southwestern Tuscany, the Fattoria le Pupille estate has become an iconic reference of the Maremma Toscana appellation. Nicknamed "The Lady of Morellino", Elisabetta Geppetti has been working, since the age of twenty, with both passion and ambition to make the estate a flagship among the finest Italian wines. A pioneer, she developed the estate's vine population by planting Sangiovese, a typical Tuscan variety, as well as international grape varieties.
The Fattoria Le Pupille estate is renowned for its silky, aromatic wines.
The vineyard
Fattoria Le Pupille watches over 75 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares which are used for the production of the estate's olive oil.
The wine
Located in the Tuscan village of Pereta, Poggio Valente has been owned by Fattoria Le Pupille since 1996. Produced since 1997, Fattoria Le Pupille's IGT Toscana Rosso Poggio Valente is made from a 12-hectare vineyard benefiting from a south-western exposure and located 280 metres above sea level. This hilly terroir is unique as its soil is composed of sand, sandstone and clay.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested during the second half of September, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maceration between 30 and 35 days. Aged for 18 months in 500-litre and 600-litre barrels (50% of which are new).
The blend
Poggio Valente 2019 by Fattoria Le Pupille is a 100% Sangiovese.
The tasting
Colour
Brilliant, the colour is a beautiful ruby red.
Nose
The nose blends floral (red roses) and fruity (black cherry, blood orange, blackberry) fragrances with notes of dried juniper berries, Tuscan cigar and wood.
Palate
Full-bodied, the palate seduces with its aromatic intensity and silky tannins. The finish is persistent and reveals intense notes of blackcurrant.
