The estate
Founded in 1978 by Elisabetta Geppetti in the Tuscan Maremma, Fattoria Le Pupille extends over around 85 hectares of vineyards. Nicknamed the « Signora del Morellino », Elisabetta transformed this former family farm into a benchmark estate with the guidance of the legendary Giacomo Tachis. Now run by her children Clara Gentili and Ettore Arturo Rizzi, the estate continues this legacy with Andrea Lupi as consulting winemaker.
The vineyard
Poggio Valente comes from a vineyard located in Pereta, in the Tuscan commune of Magliano, at 350 meters above sea level. Planted between 1996 and 2005, the vines benefit from an ideal south-west exposure across 10 hectares of rolling soils. The top layer, rich in sand of sandstone origin mixed with clay, gives the wine its distinctive structure.
Winemaking and aging
The Poggio Valente 2022 harvest took place during the second half of September. Fermentation is carried out at 26°C in stainless-steel tanks, followed by an extended maceration of 30 to 35 days allowing optimal extraction. This 'IGT Toscana wine then benefits from 15 months of aging in barrels, 20% of which are new, bringing structure and complexity without masking the fruit’s expression.
Grape variety
Sangiovese (100 %).
