The result of a unique collaboration: a rich and elegant Tuscan white wine

The estate

The Frescobaldi family, a large family from Florence dedicated to producing Tuscan wines, have lived in this historic place for over 1000 years. Their influence grew considerably during the Florentine Republic, when the city's banking industry established itself. The family took part in great engineering works at the time, such as the Santa Trinita Bridge and the Santo Spirito Basilica. In 2012, the iconic family behind fine Italian wines founded Frescobaldi - Gorgona when they showed interest in the prison island, Gorgona. By collaborating with this unique European location, the estate contributed to facilitating prisoners' reintegration into society, by working with nature and gaining valuable skill sets during the course of their sentence.

The vineyard

Located in Italy, Gorgona Island is home to a small 2-hectare vineyard, managed in an organic manner, in the heart of an amphitheatre overlooking the sea.

The wine

A symbol of hope and freedom, Frescobaldi's Gorgona - Gorgona transports us to the very heart of a unique location, enhanced by the work of man. To illustrate this Italian fable, the wine’s label changes for each vintage in order to highlight the different aspects of the island.

The vintage

The winter was marked by rain, however the temperature remained constant and mild thanks to the sea breeze. This temperate microclimate favoured an early budburst at the beginning of March. The mild and sunny weather conditions in spring are ideal for a regular and even crop development. Rare rainy episodes occurred during the hot summer months. The windy and sunny weather conditions in September are ideal and ensured optimal ripeness of the grapes and provided a rich and elegant aromatic profile.

The blend

Frescobaldi Gorgona 2020 - Gorgona comprises a blend of Vermentino and Ansonica.

The tasting

Colour

This wine is a beautiful straw yellow colour with golden hues.

Nose

This wine combines floral (cistus, mastic, juniper, broom, hawthorn) and fruity (pineapple, pomegranate) fragrances with delicious citrus notes (bergamot).

Palate

Refreshing and delicious, this wine is seductive due to its balance, its character and its elegance.
